MemberHey Zach –
Sounds like the start of another great cast of podcast subjects!
When you talk to Paul Prentiss on the FF championships, I’d really like to learn more about the technical side of what the most successful anglers did at these events.

MemberHaving dropped a camera into a stream (ouch! – instant death for the camera!), I will never take a non-waterproof camera into that environment again.

MemberTwo small boxes – one for dries and the other for mostly nymphs with a few wets and streamers tossed in.

MemberFor free tools, Irfanview is pretty good and simple to operate, but gives a good bit more control than you get with Picassa.

MemberBeing a local to the Northern CO scene, I’ve seen plenty of guides on the water and have never been subject to, or witnessed anything like you described – but I’m not at all doubting what you experienced.

MemberI’m new to this particular forum, but as I’ve rekindled my interest in photography, chiming in here is as good a place to start as any.
I certainly understand the objection among many to many HDR images.

MemberThough I’m going through a dry/dropper and tight-line nymphing phase, when i do use an indicator, balloons it is.
Lightest available and therefore the most casting-friendly, super sensitive and can be made from very small:

to as large as, well, a balloon.
They’re dirt cheap (always a plus!).
I tie them on two ways.

MemberIt’d also be very interesting to see the activity around the .com boom and bust.

MemberI haven’t used them or even seen them in person, but from the pictures they look like the outer sole material is the regular lightweight (and comfy!) Crocs foam.

MemberI’m sure I’m far from alone – especially to those of us here on the Front Range –

MemberIn my circle of motorhead friends (another “hobby” of mine), I’m one of the few that will own up to liking the Element from the day it came out.

MemberIf you are a huge tinkerer, you really should try making a cane rod.
nemoblackdog
MemberI would actually suggest that it is a more accurate comparison to compare a solid section of bamboo with a hollow section of carbon fiber, given that a majority of bamboo rods are solid and, to my knowledge, every graphite rod is hollow.
nemoblackdog
MemberI, too, appreciate the beauty of bamboo rods, and given that the stuff is grown in my family ancestral lands gives it a bit of added appeal in my case.
For me, the durability issue is more related to my own tendencies to abuse and inattention.

MemberEven though I live in very sunny Colorado, for fishing I’ve grown to strongly prefer the lighter shades of polarized glasses – i.e. “deep yellow” or “light amber”.

MemberI never thought of the fact that is is not stiff enough, but your right it would not be stiff enough.
Hmmm…
Instead of the conventional tapered mono leader, I did some experimenting today, and put 10′ lengths of these on the end of my fly line:
