MemberJoel, in your neck of the woods I have noticed that the prices have been steadily increasing well above $500/day over the past two years. My guide works both Florida and Montana and honestly he and I have had a few words about pricing recently. I understand both sides of the issue and the economy-of-scale. Ultimately I had to turn down my annual January Redfish trip because the price was just too high (and he stopped providing lunch). Furthermore, I will likely have to find a new guide in Montana this fall for same monetary issue. The problem I see with the industry is similar to the restaurant business.

MemberAllen,
Great Fly!
Your camera is capable of capturing much more information than you can imagine.

MemberMike, Ben and I go back and forth about monitors in regard to his LaCie 526 vs my Apple Cinema display 24″. In short summary – he is right (as usual) in that the Apple monitors only cover 78% of the RGB gamut and even less of the ProPhoto spectrum. Basically, the Cinema Displays (not the iMac built in per se) are just big laptop monitors. However, they look darn cool and the chrome matches the MacBook Pro lineup. That is what drew me in at first and without regret. However, now that I am doing print and conversions on a production level, I have seen the necessity for a LaCie or equivalent “high gamut” monitor and will upgrading in the next year and giving the Cinema Display to my wife. If all you are going to do is export photos for blogs and webpages then the Apple monitors of any variety are sufficient. If you are going to sell photos for high end prints then you will want (but not necessarily need) a “high gamut” monitor.

MemberMickey, seriously let me know if you end up catching any trout in cold/moving water with the Seaducer (and if so what size, color, etc). I am keeping a log and to date have noticed very little action with the trout on the river.

MemberThat Snow Peak unit is perfect but not cheap!

You Deserve it! Just get it. 😎
Life is too short to drink bad coffee or fish with inferior tackle. 😉

MemberGreat Seaducers Mickey. Let us know how they work. IMHO, it might be a bit too cold this weekend for “good” Seaducer fishing on the river. Also, the barometer in your area (I checked) will be a bit off – thus that style of fishing might be challenging. Post a reply and let us know how it goes.
FYI, here is a tutorial I posted a while back on the Seaducer http://flyartstudio.com/wordpress/?p=432

MemberIn theory, the Seaducer style of fly “should” work for trout, especially using a sink-tip line on the swing. However, I have been unsuccessful in general with this style for trout. And that comes from lots of trial and error. On the other hand, they are killer for small mouth and shoal bass on my local river, the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta. Over the past two years I have abandoned the Seaducer style in favor of the Circus Peanut or Sex Dungeon articulated flies, which work much more predictably (and favorably) for trout in cold/moving water. Of course, it is always a go-to for bass on the ponds and lakes as you mentioned.
Nice fly by the way 🙂 Let us know if it works for trout in cold/moving water.
The Seaducer style catches a lot of shoal bass as shown below, but in my experience is not reliable for trout.

MemberI love this topic – I.E. “false confidence” patterns.
Grant Wright beat me to the punch. I would have to say the all time mis-hyped fly IMHO is the gummy minnow. I have never caught a single fish on them.

MemberI was waiting for you to chime in here Bob. You are the first guy to take me Kayak fishing and I’ve been hooked every since. By the way, did you get a new car? Here is a picture of your old car and Kayak setup.

AND . . . back by popular demand (LOL) . . . The David and Goliath photograph! 😉 ::) :'(

MemberSure! If you got it, use it! Especially 8-10wts because they turn over bass bugs well. I especially like my 9wt for sink tip lines and big flies in the brush on ponds – if you get a big bass you need to immediately fight him out of the cover or the game is over. However, the Sage Smallmouth and Largemouth rods have kind of changed the way many bass guys fish because they are just damn good rods for pond/lake fishing.
Also, I use my 8wt Xi2 on the river for throwing Sex Dungeons and articulated flies (however, I hate that stiff rod and I really want another 7wt Heliply for that game, which was the perfect rod until I lost it).
