MemberThanks for those pic’s Mike. Those sure enough say ‘early season’. Already thinking ahead to August and our two week trip. I hear the snowpack is near normal in most areas out west. Hopefully, that’s what your seeing.

MemberThanks for the input guys, those are some great images as well. The reason for wanting to stay with the DX is that I already own two DX

MemberHere in East Tennessee, even between flyways, it’s all about ducks in the winter. I’ve been passionate about the sport since 1976. My labs Dakota and Madison travel with me where ever we decide to go. North Alabama, west Tennessee, and Southern Illinois are the usual destinations. It’s time…………

MemberThat’s insane. It’s been a while since we hunted the river. I remember setting up below thirteen mile one morning and it was slow. I walked upstream to fish while my buddy sat on the bank , hunting over the decoys. I hooked a nice fish or two and talked him into coming and getting some pictures. As soon as he got back over the decoys, he started dropping gadwalls, one after another. I miss it. We still have three weeks till the season opens here in Tennessee and even then, it will be slow until around Christmas.Keep the post coming.

MemberHope you do well there Eric. One of the many trips I have made there came in early November. We spent most of one rainy day at the first tiny island just down from afterbay. There is a shoal there that holds lots of fish and we had an incredible day fishing a bwo hatch. My waders let go that day, but I refused to get out of the river.

MemberGreat pics and report. I missed coming out to Montana this year. We are already talking up a two week trip next August. The Big Hole is one of the rivers we may float if conditions are still good that time of year. I spoke with someone today about the Bitterroot and floating it near Darby. He was out last week and said visibility was very bad due to the fires.

MemberA boat can be used even without generation, but you have to pick the right stretch of water, especially if the wind gets up. You can spend the day rowing hard if your not careful. We went from White Hole to Wildcat back in May on a day where the generators did not run until 2:00 and gave us a good push out. It’s probably best to find some water to wade until you get to know the river a little.

MemberScuds will work there, but right now it’s all about the Pt’s because the grass is full of the sulphur nymphs waiting to hatch out. The only fish I caught last time out were on midge pupa.

MemberYou may want to check for open dates on one of the spring creeks in Paradise Valley. Great way to spend a day or two if you don’t mind a rod fee. Right now it’s cheaper, before the summer season.
Mike Livingstone
MemberDitto on that!

MemberHope you do well on the White Zach, the browns should really be colored up by now. Know what you mean with the colder weather, I’m gearing up for duck season and it does need to get cold.
