A dozen years ago, I took my wife on her first fly fishing trip, to the San Juan River in Northern New Mexico.

I was inspired by the book Midge Magic by Don Holbrook and Ed Koch and bought a Leica Zoom 2000 stereoscope on eBay from a reputable dealer.  I’ve used it (as they did) to examine stomach contents of fish and to match colors of thread to midges I tie.  

Mine has both direct and indirect lighting, which is quite an advantage.

I had the good fortune to end up in an airport waiting room with Mel a few years ago after a fly tackle dealer’s show in Denver.

We’ve had four golden retrievers and have named them all for places we were living at the time we got them:

Chadbourne (Chad) — street in Shaker Heights, OH
Halliday (Hal) — street in St. Louis
Barrington (Barry, Bear) — town outside Chicago
Rio — living on the Guadalupe River in Central Texas

I started with a Renzetti Traveler, have added onto it over the years (cam, saltwater upgrade, Clouser arm, parachute arm) and still use it whenever I travel with a vise.

As a past president of two TU chapters and a current member of TU’s National Leadership Council, I can tell you that TU is involved in both advocacy and activism, both influencing policy and legislation and working on projects to make streams better for trout.
