Just got a note from a friend of Mel and Fanny’s. Mel passed away at 3.30 this morning… A sad loss to the interantional flyfishing community.

I’ll drink a toast to you tonight Mel.

While I never met Mel he remains one of the major influences on my casting tuiition philosophy and has been an inspiration for a long time.

    He’ll be sadly missed.

You can judge a man by the size of things which annoy him.

There is no denying his skill and influence. Personally, I know I benefited from his videos and books.

I know Mel is in a better place right now and I would bet he is either fishing or teaching casting. Truly a sad day

I had the privilege to meet Mel in 1994. He was the certifier for the FFF Fly Casting Certificate which I gladly passed!

What a great personality. His passion for casting is just amazing.

    Sad loss indeed….

I second the notion, a toast in his name.

Very sad indeed. I run his video from time to time in the fly shop and always find it entertaining and helpful.

I too will be drinking a toast in his name this evening…

I had the good fortune to end up in an airport waiting room with Mel a few years ago after a fly tackle dealer’s show in Denver.

    Mick,
that’s the best time one could have with anybody.
There’s no hurry so there’s time to talk.
