Mel passed away at 3.30 this morning… A sad loss to the interantional flyfishing community. I’ll drink a toast to you tonight Mel. While I never met Mel he remains one of the major influences on my casting tuiition philosophy and has been an inspiration for a long time. He’ll be sadly missed. You can judge a man by the size of things which annoy him. Oct 7, 2008 at 9:04 pm #30012 dusty montgomeryMember There is no denying his skill and influence. Personally, I know I benefited from his videos and books. Truly a sad day M Oct 7, 2008 at 10:04 pm #30014 noneMember I had the privilege to meet Mel in 1994. He was the certifier for the FFF Fly Casting Certificate which I gladly passed! What a great personality. His passion for casting is just amazing. Sad loss indeed…. Jay Oct 8, 2008 at 2:27 am #30015 Aaron OttoMember I second the notion, a toast in his name. Oct 9, 2008 at 12:24 am #30016 Joel ThompsonMember Very sad indeed. I run his video from time to time in the fly shop and always find it entertaining and helpful. I too will be drinking a toast in his name this evening… Joel Oct 12, 2008 at 2:26 pm #30017 mick mccorcleMember I had the good fortune to end up in an airport waiting room with Mel a few years ago after a fly tackle dealer’s show in Denver.
