Copying the catalog from device to device can be a pain in the arse, plus the images won’t be accessible to LR so you won’t be able to use the develop module, sliders will be grayed out.
I guess for me there is no “best” solution.
Been using it for about a year or so now. Slowly but surely getting it loaded with my archive.
I recently re-designed my site using wordpress and a graph paper press theme for wordpress. My blog is now fully integrated with my site and photoshelter allows for full configuration on their end with one click, pretty slick.
I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about my experience with either platform.
I don’t think there is a very simple response to your question(s), especially not one that can be answered in one paragraph (although Zach did a good job on the polarizer).
Mike, I’d skip the 1D3 (I had 2 of them fairly early on before I jumped ship) and go right for the 1D4.
