MemberThe Lightroom library system doesn’t do it for me because it assumes I want to hang onto photos.
The fact is that I can fill my computers in a single shoot and need to edit, process, back-up and then delete stuff very quickly to make room for the next job.
If Lightroom had a simple file browser like bridge It would be great, but the insist you do things their way and their way is set-up for weekend warriors and GWC’s – not burnt out- technophobe -has been guys that yell at their computers.. ;DMaybe the library thing could be made to work for me now that hard drives are so cheap ?
I’m going to re-visit the situation when I update my computers next.
It will work for you amigo.

MemberI have Lightroom and Photoshop on my PC – the Photoshop is an older version (CS2), and I can’t see myself buying a new copy anytime soon. Lightroom is the reason for this- it does 99% of what most photographers need photoshop to do, plus it organizes/catalogs your photos.
If I was to start over tomorrow I’d just buy Lightroom and be done with it.
Re; Lightroom – I couldn’t agree more.
I also will add David that I’d love to know why you don’t like LR. I’m assuming by your post that you seem not to like it when you shoot heavy, when in fact I think its ability to handle heavy shoots is one of its many strengths.
Can you expand a bit?

MemberI’m not a huge fan of HDR, but I like these well enough.
The last shot seemed really bright when compared to the middle 2 – the 1st shot has really nice lines working through it.
Shot a little (very little, much to my chagrin) bass fishin’ on Lake Amistad this weekend myself. Only actually saw one fish caught – the guys SWEAR that they caught a couple more when they were away from the houseboat in their kayaks, but I’m not so sure.

MemberI *love* that third critter – though both 2 and 1 (working backwards) merit equal amounts of lust.
Lovely work!

MemberGrats Kendal.
I found out this afternoon I’d won the grand prize in a National Geogrpahic contest. 3 Glorious days tripping in Alqonquin Park with an award winning Nature photographer workshop and a ton of camping equipment.

After last weekend’s cover, new lens etc this is continuing the roll.So seeing as how news comes in threes.
Who else got good news recently?
Hey hey!

MemberYou can punch it up a bit and there are some more advanced things to can do to keep the viewers eyes where you want them but technically speaking theres zero wrong with it.
Exposure is spot on.
Artistically, theres a million things that might be changed most of which are subjective. From lowering the perspective to framing tighter and removng some of the distractions, and or narrower DoF etc. The possible list is quite long, none of which are right or wrong. Its a persons taste that decides those things.
I’ve got nothing to add that John didn’t already say, and say well. 🙂
On a completely unrelated note; I was hired today to spend a week up in Montana shooting fly fishing in August.
Also – I have no less than a dozen deep sea charter captains that have offered to bring me aboard to shoot their trips this summer.
It’s been a killer day for me. 🙂
Sorry to derail the thread – your (glorious) Montana experience was so close to home I had to share. heh
Oh – and – another aside; if you can, read the story of Lewis and Clark on the Bitterroot. Fascinating bit of American history that!

MemberPut simply, I don’t think it’s a good idea to merge the two.
You have 2 very different missions – one is to sell clothing, the other is to sell photography. At least that’s what it appears to be.
I just doesn’t make sense to me.
Clothing – yes – in its own website.
Stock photography and services – yes – at its own website.

Member…any dood who doesn’t listen to music is not to be trusted.
It’s a take-off on another quote;
“Never trust a man who doesn’t drink.”

MemberThanks.

MemberThanks! It actually helps answer the question I was interested in too–would the bird start at the head of the snake?

Every raptor I’ve encountered so far, and that’s falcons, hawks, eagles, and owls, have all started by eating the brains.

MemberYeah it’s possibly my favorite as well, along side one of the 3 above.
Id processed that Sunday after I’d put the post up here.I hear you Kendal.
I was in a bit of a funk through much of Feb/March. Up here in the frozen north theres not much to go after. It’s only been the last week or two I’ve been invigorated to get out and shoot stuff with a purpose.Turkey Season opens in 4 weeks ( already hae some great Tom pics) and Trout opens the same week.
As a side note just got Aprils issue tonight and I have the cover (steelhead) and a full page inside (preseasonsteelhead) and some Turkey hunting related stuff.
Its enough to motivate me 🙂
Congrats mucho on the cover and full page inside!

MemberI learned in a reply from an editor to whom I’d forwarded the link that Isla Mujera has been most generous this year with sails and bait. He told me there’d been at least three other photographers that he’s aware of that have landed some stellar material from the area.
Lucky dogs all.

MemberThanks guys.
Will we have resident RTs and Coopers but also get migrants. This guy is som tame though, noone can figure it out. I went back to get more of him this morning and there was a huge crowd shooting him. I guess after posting some of this on the photogrpahy website I frequent word got out a bit 🙂 Still there, still not a care in world people are around.
Way unusual.
Jason I’m Canon. Shot these handheld with a 1DMKIIn and 500mm f4 L.
Nicely done sir.

MemberThere was a guy named larry Burroughs that was a shooter in NAM he was really great too! Didn’t make it back though! disappeared with Douglas Fairbanks in Thailand or Cambodia I think. I liked Eddie’s summation on the written word. Something like “you can write all you want but its the picture they remember”.
That’s a great quote David.
I *must* try to remember it. If only it was a picture.

MemberThanks a lot, everyone. That’s a ton to digest, and I plan to. The first thing I have to do is get a DSLR; lost mine when I got canned. :'(
I’ll be back with a million questions in a couple months, I’m sure.
Phil
If there’s anything I can do to help Phil, drop a line.
I made the transition to freelancer myself a year and a half ago – it ain’t easy, but I bet there are mistakes I’ve made and things I’ve learned that might help you, and you’re welcome to pick my brain.
(…and yeah, you’ve a great group here whose brains are ripe for pickin’ too!)

MemberI’ll agree with the others here – and add special emphasis on the jealous part.
