Zach the similarities between Montana and New Zealand are plenty. I think the biggest difference is the numbers of fish. Montana has WAY more fish but the ones in New Zealand are big and almost always smart. I think in general their terrain is steeper than most of Montana but the amount of mountains is the same.
Funny thing amount the IA shirts. Simon and both woke up wearing them on Sunday morning. I took it to be a good omen!
I am back and finally caught up with work emails. Over a hundred of them waiting for me upon my return! >:( The internet is a little weak in NZ so I didn’t even bother checking them while I was there.
I am posting my report soon. I warn you all it is a short novel but the it is a story that had to be told. It will be up soon!

This is a great event all and one that Ron has worked very hard on. I hope you can all show him some support! I know that Montana Troutaholics is very proud to be apart of this and even more proud of the vets who put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms that will be attending.

K2, There has been a lot of new gear bought for this trip. Boots are a for sure thing as the felt is no longer allowed. As far as flies go I have heard both yes and no on so I am bringing mine.
I am a little concerned about my waders as they are quite stained from guiding out of them for the past couple of years. I am going to try and put a clean on them to see if it helps but I am sure I will be holding my breath on getting them in.
Dusty, Two weeks is all we could swing. All ready doesn’t seem long enough but it certainly gives us a good excuse to go back! 🙂

I get back on the 9th Mike. I might be able to swing it that weekend but won’t really know until I get back as I could end up with a trip while I am away. How much notice do you need?

I haven’t forgot about hooking up with you and doing the water in my area. Looks like it might have to wait until April as I am leaving soon for New Zealand.

Hey Clark!
We arrive in Christchurch on Saturday the 28th at 7:35am and head to Lake Tekapo from there. We are spending a couple of days there and fishing with Simon on Sunday and then off to Wanaka on Monday. We will stay there until Wednesday then it is off to Te Anau. On Thursday we drive to Milford and Friday down to Lumsden to hook up with Simon again to fish on the weekend. Monday and Tuesday are open at this point and Wednesday the 8th we fly out of Christchurch at 5:30pm.
That is the schedule Clark. I would love to hook up and fish if it works out. Just let me know.

Clark are those bugs going to still be tempting fish when I am down there at the end of March? I could tie that thing to look like a hopper for the waters around here in Montana! Great bug!

I kind of agree with Danny. I do think that with in reason we should try and do our part to slow it down but we will never stop as long as there are birds like ducks, geese, herons….they are all huge contributors to the problem.

A few weeks ago, I sent some patterns to Montana Fly Company for their consideration. I sent in the Hopper Juan and I hope they pick it up. I shall wait and see.
Please share and post photos of your hoppers that you tied and also fish you have caught using this pattern. That’s why I shared it with you. 😉Juan

Adam and Duncan will love this bug! Easy to tie and not too much bling. My guess is they will pick this bug up in a heart beat and I will be selling it in the shop next year! Nice work!

Cole I will be keeping the slogan. I am also going to add the fish and fly line from my logo in a small version to go right underneath the slogan just to tie things in. I should have a sample shirt to show everyone before I head to New Zealand at the end of the month. When I return I will be taking orders.
i think that the news media has a lot to do with the economy all gloom and doom it is being sensationlized .make everyone afraid to buy.
I could not agree more Bill! I think the media is very responsible and they continue to make it worse. I won’t even watch the evening news any more.

First off I want to say that your website that you built is the go to site for finding out about vintage rods and reels. You should be very proud!
Now I am going to tell you something from the heart. Sante do NOT let someone whether it be a doctor, a friend, or a so called “expert” give you a death sentence!! My mom supposedly ( according to the experts) had an incurable form of cancer as well. That was 6 years ago and today she is cancer free. She would not let the words of others sentence her to death. My mom has a great faith and believed strongly in the power of prayer and would pray daily for her cancer to be healed. It was and her doctors are still in disbelief.
My wife has a poster in her classroom that says “Attitude is the only true disability”. I believe this. Even if the sickness eventually wins if we remain positve we never let it get us completely.
My prayers are with you Sante and I really hope you beat this thing and come back stronger than ever!!
