MemberI haven’t noticed any issue with mine, guys, but yeah, I will probably take them up on it. Might as well get a new shutter.
Zach
Perhaps you’ll get lucky and they’ll send a D610 to replace it. Stranger things have happened.

MemberActually, I was thinking more like this:

…so it would give the same quality light as one of these (albiet with 1/1000 the output):

MemberVery nice DIY Zach. These would work well at home but not so much on location as JM mentioned above. Just a thought- Most good professional strobe heads have flash tubes that stick out (to spread the light around 36o degrees and ‘fill’ the soft box), therefore I would suggest pushing your strobes into the box a little more & using the plastic ‘dome’ on your flash units to mimic this effect, giving you a softer light overall.
Hope this helps.

MemberWhat about the ultimate fail safe option
> prints? You can have an inexpensive set of 4×6″ glossies made and place them in a bank deposit box. No electricity needed. Plus, they’ll be there ready to view even after the Zombie Apocalypse. Just sayin’db

MemberGood stuff John! UW housings are where these cameras shine! Was lens choice your deciding factor between the Oly/Pen cameras and Sony NEX? Or are there other considerations?
Douglas Barnes
MemberThanks Mike. The 17-55 would just tip it outside the price range I think. Ideally I’d like to keep it under $2,500 NZ. Particularly as I’ll need to buy a handful of bits and pieces for it.
I don’t know anything about Canon systems but I would suggest re-prioritizing your money into the best lenses you can buy. Bodies will come and go, it’s the lenses that stick around.
Just my 2 cents.

MemberLooks solid! I will prolly pick one up eventually. The only disappointment is the tiny DX style viewfinder. What’s up with that? Compared to the large round full frame VF’s of the D700-D800-D3/4, these little square things are like peering into a dark cave through a keyhole.
Bummer.

MemberI’ve always wanted to do that. Thanks for sharing!

MemberSome of the cameras were produced with a mis-programmed left focus sensor. Checked mine and it’s fine. You can find more info here on Thom Hogan’s site:

Don’t worry Shannon, any remorse will fade once you see the unbelievable resolution of your new camera. It still amazes me every time I use it.
Regarding the D600, yes, it’ll be almost as great. 24mp, prolly smaller & lighter (w/o 100% viewfinder), less robust body, no focus screw so no autofocus with non AFS lenses, and a 10mp DX mode. Available to buy sometime in early 2013. Excellent!

MemberA buddy of mine uses on of these on his skiff with a few lead weights on the bottom to keep it in place. I thought it was pretty genius:

MemberGreat fish report Joel!!! You’re right, everyone should experience Argentina at least once in their lifetime. Sorry to hear about your gear/baggage issues. Did you fly into, change airports, and out-of B.A. the same day?
Douglas, BA has two airports. One international and one domestic and they are on opposite sides of town from each other. Not a big deal if you have plenty of time but because we had to mess around with filing a claim for our luggage our extra time was gone. Even though our Taxi driver drove like a mad man and we were there 45 minutes before our flight was to leave it was not enough time. Security lines are long and the people at the airlines would not give us boarding passes as a result. (We have a sneaky suspicion that they sold our seats)
In the end it all worked out and we had a great time and will always have a story to tell. That is what it’s all about, right?
Joel
Absolutely! And great stories and photos you have! I was just inquiring as I can’t imagine the stress of getting off an international flight, getting bags, going through customs etc, only to cross that town and try to board the domestic leg hours later. Whew! Dicey! The two times we’ve gone we’ve stayed a night or two in BA and took in a Tango… 🙂
