Sounds like fun! We haven’t had a good snow in SE Metro areas since 93 or 94. We had a dusting first of the week and they closed the schools. My wife is a teacher, she loved it. I can remember when we had 4 seasons!

I saw a Lensbaby at Photoshop World last year it. it seemed like it would be fun to have around and produces some neat effect in camera so you don’t have to do so much post processing. Its either a winner or not! I like to make the photo in camera and polish it in post processing. Sharpness in depth with a 35 style camera is a issue that really can only be dealt with by stopping down or a little forward tilt of the lens if you have a camera that will do it. You might be able to combine exposures of different areas of sharpness into 1 image etc.

The Lensbaby might be a good option for focus effects. The new lenbaby has locking pins to hold the lens in a adjusted position. zi don’t think the actual lens is all that great but I have seen some nice shots using it.

I think Nikon made a 35 or 28mm shift lens. As I remember there was no tilt. Basically it allows you to keep the camera level and drop the lens to have some foreground and keep your vertical lines straight. In nearly 35 years of shooting I’ve only seen one used once on a shoot for a slide show 30 years ago. Most 35 mm camera lenses produce such a small image circle that swings, tilts and shifts are limited to a few millimeters. I think Canon makes some now and I think Richard B. has a couple in his kit.

If you really want to have some fun rent a 4X5 view camera and use some Polaroid film. The view camera lies at the heart of photography. With the view camera you are forced to slow down and think about camera placement, lens selection, sharpness distribution and exposure etc. A view camera guy named Ted Orland use to say “there is nothing wrong with a 35mm camera that a 4X5 view camera won’t fix”.

Pro Photo Resources in Atlanta has gear for rent and I heard about http://www.lensprotogo.com/ on a podcast. Rental is a good way to try out really radical gear.

I remember seeing Raz play when he was in college. He and I are close to the same age and I have seen him at our local fly shop here in Tennessee a few times. Man its a small world!

Morsie, can you have a rifle just in case you get into a bad spot with one of those big crocs. Can you own a gun to use for hunting. What are your regulations. As I recall a man went on a shooting spree with a high powered rifle and your government really tightened up the regulations. Just curious!

You a tennis fan? I wish I was in Australia I could catch some of the Australian Open. When I was growing up many of the great Aussie players were my idols! Hoad, Laver, Rosewall, Newcombe. I lived to play the game like them!

I have the Clouser line for my 8 weight S3 it does load the rod well with a moderate amount of line out. It handles weighted flies well but I still get some kick over. I am going to ty up some Clouser/Lefty Kreh style leader out of Maxima and see if it helps things roll out a little smoother. Anyone have a good leader formula for heavy flies? I found a good article at Warmwater Journal http://warmwaterflyfisher.com/wwjournal/wwjournwwtips7_2.htm

Guns are a part of our culture for better or worse. We have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms here in the USA. We have a pretty good ongoing discussion about this but I think it comes down to freedom. If a crazy person or a martyr is hell bent on committing a crime or killing people they will find a way. I believe gun control means hitting what your aiming at but we need to fine tune our gun laws.

Being a commercial photographer I would be out early and late with a large view camera shooting buildings and landscapes. I was downtown shooting one day and I was under the dark cloth and I heard someone approach from the side. I pulled the cloth down and reached into my camera case for my holster and put it in my pocket. The guy paused looked at me and said “wuz up man” or words to that effect. I told him that I was shooting a picture of the church keeping my hand in my pocket around the tan leather holster after a few tense moments the guy moved on. I don’t know if he intended to harm me or not but I knew something wasn’t right.

After he got around the corner I pulled the holster from my pocket removed the 1 degree light meter

I just got a new pair of Action Optics Chambers in the Polachromatic Yellow. I had a pair of their glasses that were 5 or 6 years old. One of the lenses began to delaminate so they gave me credit to buy a new pair with no hassle. Action Optics has done a good job standing behind their product for me and my local shop Choo-Choo Fly and Tackle in Chattanooga, TN did a good job of handling the replacement. Action Optics will get any new purchases that I make going forward.

Looks like a really good lens! Where did you shoot the misty mountain scene? I like the chimney and outhouse too. Its to bad there was no fog for that shot.
