You’re going to be an hour from Big Mac – Lake McConaughay – east of Sydney. Below the dam is Lake Ogallala, where the state stocks rainbows. I’ve not fished it, but researched it briefly before a spring trip to visit friends in Ogallala. Mostly a powerbait fishery I’d guess, but the lake looks great for a kayak or belly boat as not that much of the shoreline accessible to the bait anglers. There is a fly fishing club there, maybe they could help if you can find them on Google.

    Billy,

If you’re going to be on the river more than 50% of the time, go with the Coosa, as it has a rocker that will do better in the moving water than the Cuda. If you’re going to be in the pond or other flat water more than 50% of the time, go with the Cuda, as it has a flatter bottom.

The Coosa is our River boat, the Cuda is our solo lake/pond boat.

That said, either will work fine if you’re going to do both, it is just that the Coosa will turn better in the moving water and the Cuda will track better in the flat water.

Have you looked at the Kilroy? A sit in (vs. sit on top) boat that is very stable. It might be the boat that would do both very well.

Tommyknocker has a taphouse in Idaho Springs, and it is just down the street from Beaujo’s pizza, which I highly recommend.

Doug – you know I actually closed the page saying to myself it isn’t worth it, but then I went and drew another homebrew off the keg and decided I just couldn’t let your comment go.

I picked up the Jackson Big Tuna a few weeks ago and really like it so far.

Scott made a ferrule when I bought my pole, so you should be able to get an OEM product

    Abe,

Probably getting out of your desired price range, but TFO – as Mangrove – sells 56 inch pole sections so you can make your own.

I’m pretty sure what Scott is talking about is Dingell-Johnson (D-J) money and it has been around quite a while.

    Eric,

Read this http://www.flatslander.com/skinflintskeysarticle.html as just about all the places I mention as walk ins are fishable from a flats boat.

In addition to the Bug launcher already mentioned from TFO, the Finesse series has a 7′ 9″ 3 wt and 4 wt.
