A friend’s Scott carbon fiber push pole got tangled in a dock line today as we drifted by, with the last 18 inches or so on the pointed end losing out. My thoughts are to plug it with a piece of PVC and put the pieces back together like it was a ferrule. Marine-grade epoxy. Any other thoughts on putting the pieces together?
There’s a specific way to do this. I am not sure what the dimensions are on the Scott, but if he’ll mike it out, I bet he can get a ferrule from TFO for downright cheap and repair it. The way to do it is with a tubular graphite ferrule which slides just inside the pole, and JB Weld as the bonding agent. TFO’s poles come in four sections to begin with so my pole has three such joints in it – they are strong.
