Nice stuff Neal! I have taken my full flash setup out on the river in the past also .. and I agree, a little stressful. 🙂
I wouldnt trust a gorilla pod with the weight of a dlr and a lens. I do think there are mini-tripods that would also do the trick and prob wouldnt be much more effort to carry. I dont have any specific recommends, but woudl also be interested in hearing what has worked for people.
You just need to get one of the IA crew over to NZ to fish with you! 😉

For camera specific gear I use a Burton Zoom when I hike, etc .. It also opens from the back. Love it and wish it was waterproof. On the river I use a WJ Exodus
Not directly photography related and the technical stuff is all very out-of-date, but this book had a big influence on me as far as lighting goes …
Joel: I will shoot you an email for sure…. I have been thinking a bit about a midwinter trip. Hit a few tailwaters and play in the snow. Have not really narrowed it down on the driftboat … Liking the RO.
Mike: Yes! Its a very cool river! Honestly, cant wait to get back. Dont remember exactly which section it was that we floated. It was closer to Twin, but not from the park.

I love fishing with a pack, as do most of the guys I fish with. The only thing that would be really nice is a fishing specific waterproof pack for camera gear. I had been using a aquaknot for about 10 months, but it is already falling apart. Currently using the WJ Exodus ….
