It’s only going to happen if you guys buy enough of my $399 gold* wading staffs.

Yeah, but look at how white those crackers are, you’d think they’ve been in Alaska for the past couple of months the way they blend right into the sand; those bonefish still don’t know what happened.

Nice fish, out of the ‘yak too, most impressive.

When I start my FF gear company I plan to set the prices at least double to the competion’s and I will brand everything with quotes like “Let them eat cake” and “Only the little people pay taxes”; I also plan to retire by 35.

I’d like to hear more on that too.

Mike, I really like RAW, it lets me forget about white balance issues and worry more about good exposure and composition.  I get about 150 shots on a 2G card with a similar file size.

You’ve got to like post-processing although with a few basic saved profiles and a dropper tool to set the white balance I can usually make files as good or better than what would come out of the camera in JPEG mode pretty quickly if I must.

They do take longer to work with but I also throw away a lot of shots before even touching them.

They look a little better today, did you go back and adjust the exposure in an editing program, or is it the different monitor I’m on today?

Edit:  It’s the monitor, still trying to get the one at the home dialed in right.

That was the source of some serious stress as the PH tried to look for the family jewels on a cat at 60 yds.

    I can see that, ha.

Damn, I want to go so bad.

Well you’re better than me so I’m not going to offer anything critical but I’ll add that the composition on this one is great.

Nice fish.  As for the photos #2 has got a funky shadow going across it, not much you can do about that other than not taking the shot, the rest are more just underexposed than anything else, as if you were trying to use too fast of a shutter speed than the light and your lens could really handle.  What mode were you using the camera in?

My real problem with the canned hunts is the potential to spread disease.  I haven’t heard much about this being a problem in Africa yet (haven’t really researched it either), Chronic Wasting Disease is defintely bordering on a pandemic over here though, and there are many cases of infected farming operations.

It’s a tricky balance though, to at least some degree I can agree that a lion shot in a pen is one less shot in the wild but then at some point they are just going to say “sorry no more permits this year”, of course you’ve got to hope they’ve got the alotment right and the big cats are a tricky thing to manage I’m told.

In addition to pumping $$$$ into conservation the hunting also keeps concerned (and armed) peoples out there to crack down on the out of control poaching situation.

Not that I don’t own a pair (of black ones, and actually they are an old pair of Waldies, which were the original) to mow the yard in and take kayaking, but…….

Matt, when I was looking for an editing program for RAW files, the ability to do good b&w conversions was one of my criteria.  I settled on Iridient Digital’s “RAW Developer”, I think it was Richard Bernabe who recomended I look at it.  It gives great control over the conversion process and in my opinion the results have been good on the few I’ve done so far.

I think that having some limited proficiency in shooting b&w film with colored filters has helped bring a little more out in the digital conversions.  You might want to read up a little on that stuff.  The most tetious parts of the editing I’ve spent messing with the individual RGB levels in the curves panel.

RAW Developer is only for RAW files and only for Mac too.  Bibble offered similar control, is supported on windows, and I THINK it could edit JPEGS too.  I’m not using Photoshop for much yet though.

This is the conversion I think I’m happiest with so far:

***Damn, that’s wide, I’ll try to resize when I get home.

I lurk on your site from time to time; what’s really most impressive is that is seems hardly any of these guys have been caught on bait as of late.
