I destroyed all that was left with an ax and crowbar and Jensen rebuilt it from the floor up (literally).

How did Zach know it was veiny before seeing the photos?

It only applies if you are fishing? I’ll go on the record as saying that is ridiculous. I wonder where they draw the line, can a guide who doesn’t catch fish for his clients use felt? It’s mostly mud and pebbles up there for me so I’m already using Vibram anyway but I’ll be interested to see how strict they are about this. I imagine some troopers will see through it and/or not care while others might decide to run with it. It’s going to surprise and piss a lot of people off if it’s enforced that’s for sure but it sucks the worst for lodges and other businesses, who can’t afford to be on the wrong side of any law, and now have to replace all their loaner/rental boots and boot-fits..

The “headwaters” and standard “guide” jacket are both shorter cut wading jackets made of GoreTex for well under $500cdn if that is what you require.

A while back I got a cheap-ish set of Slik AMT series legs and put a nice ballhead on them.

There are a lot of different models and I don’t remember what mine are but those legs are very sturdy for as light as they are. I backpack with them and have rigged it where I can hang weight off the center column if winds are crazy. I remember looking at those ebay carbon fiber jobs but they had gone up in price by the time I got to them, who knows what they are going for now.

The Slik AMT legs are taller than the carbon fiber ebay legs where at the time. The center column breaks down and can be inverted as well. You can also pop the retainers for the legs and get the thing pretty much flat on the ground if you’d like so it’s good for macro work as well.

I’ve been beating the crap out of these thing for a while and they are holding up great but I’ve never seen or heard of anyone else using them but they work very well.

I see you still have the same 10-22 but did you get a new body? The image quality looks better at any rate, not that it looked bad before.

These are very good but I was hoping you would have a new photo under your name there…

There are just too many other means for spores you’d need a microscope to see to travel from watershed to watershed.  Reel backing, neoprene gravel guards, neoprene booties, the soft material of the boot, net bags, even flies themselves.

    Exactly.

I think on some level it’s a ploy to sell more boots.

Felt soles will be banned in Alaska when 2012 rolls around FYI.

So good they had to stop making them I guess…

The G4 is $500 by the time you have it shipped or pay tax. I don’t know that I see the need for G4 waders much less a jacket though.

Josh I can’t think of a Simms Jacket under $500 that I would wear. None are Gore Tex. Even the Pak Lite is over $300 (I’m talking Cdn$$)

Both of my Chinese G3 jackets are real GoreTex. I’ve seen those pack lite jackets and they are real GoreTex also. (nice jackets too).

I wish they were still made here but my Chinese ones have been good to me as well.

I have seen several of those big plastic YKK zippers self destruct though, on both Simms and Patagonia jackets, so I’ll never fully trust the newest one I have which sucks… I might see if I can get a new zipper put in it.

They have a $500 jacket (made in Asia)

I do wish the guide jackets were made in the US and am really not thrilled that the newest models have plastic zippers, but Simms is still the best stuff out there.

    Awesome.

I think this one turned out well too:

Same thing but, yeah, it doesn’t absorb any shock. You have to make a twisted butt section if you want that property in your rigging.

Wire can really tear a fish’s mouth up bad. Step up to 30, 40, 60 or 80 mono or flouro if it starts getting knicked up to quickly for you.

    Slim beauty knot.

yeah, I don’t have one either, have thought about getting one and some of your photos just reminded me of examples I’ve seen shot with it…
