I use a 5wt StreamDance GLX for smallies and like it a lot – don’t know what the difference is between the CrossCurrent and the StreamDance series.

So how come the off-topic football thread stays, but the nude beaches post got deleted?

It just seems that pictures like these help solidify flyfishing’s position as firmly a “guys’ sport,” and I don’t particularly like that.

Aren’t the rivers crowded enough already without getting the other 50 percent of the population involved?

I’m not sure I understand the debate that’s going on over there.

BD correct me if I’m wrong here but didn’t the Sturgeon population suffer overfishing and harvesting of the eggs?

Caviar harvest and overfishing did indeed thin the sturgeon out, though like you said, our domestic caviar is considered inferior to beluga (though this may be more about snobbery than anything).

in reply to: Sturgeon in the Cumberland #13657

These are true sturgeon – there are several species, and these aren’t the belugas that are harvested for caviar in Russia, but they’re sturgeon nonetheless.

Before you guys get to excited, you need to consider the threat released on the boating public.  On the Suwanee River, sturgeon have been known to jump up and wack people in the face.

The first time one hits a jet skier, I’ll personally pay TWRA to stock another 30,000.

That seems about right for Loomis, though you can pay extra for a rush if you need it fast.

For a more serious reply than my last one:

They used to say in the marketing classes I’ve taken that “painting a brand pink” is the fastest way to kill it.

in reply to: Cherokee National Forest Up For Sale? #13592

They took a shot at selling off a ton of national forest land not long ago – maybe a year or two ago?

It’s a good thing Zach keeps a tight lid on the politics here, or I’d start an argument involving tax cuts, healthcare, and flyrods…   🙂

Suffice it to say that there’s a different world out there – there are folks out there who have enough disposable income to spend $100,000.00 a club membership so they can have exclusive fishing rights to a couple miles of river.  If you’re in that league, $8,000.00 for a rod and reel is chump change.

I think what my wife would like out of a flyshop would be a requirement that I have to have a permission slip signed by her in advance before I’m allowed to make major purchases.

    Moosedog,

If you really want to get into carp fishing, see if you can pick up a copy of “Carp on the Fly” by Barry Reynolds and Brad Befus.  It’s a great introduction to the techniques and flies you need to use.

Zach, your drawing looks a lot like the Flip Pallot edition Bass Tracker flats boats.

Zach, it was good to see you up there, even if I did pretty much wander off and do my own thing for much of the day.

If you get up to this area again, I’ll try to stick around and be a little more sociable.

I have also been fishing very hard for the fall browns my poor longbow must be so lonely anymore.

It’s considered poor form to bowfish for them.

in reply to: Question:  Costa Rica Fishing? #13395

That’s the other thing – if I fish offshore, I’ll probably forego the flyrod and use gear.

in reply to: Rod Question #13388

Have you cast the Loomis GLX in the “High Line Speed” action rather than the Presentation?

I have a GLX HLS 5wt and it is one of my favorite rods.

in reply to: Question:  Costa Rica Fishing? #13393

I would definitely rather fish inshore than the deep-sea stuff.

in reply to: A few fish pics #13396

That first fish looks plenty big to me.
