I haven’t seen any but have heard there are some monsters. I have seen some big one in Gold Branch, right below Morgan Falls in Roswell. It was this summer and was in my yak. I couldn’t get them to take anything, but they all over the place.
It’s sort of funny to hear you guys talk about fishing for carp. Not something that is really done hear in Montana. Most people view them as trash fish. The only time I have ever seen someone actually going after carp was to shoot them with an arrow using a compound bow.
Thanks for that carp in sight Zach! I have spent my whole life pretty much just focused on trout. Just in the past few years have I explored catching other types of fish. Kind of sad, in a way, that it has taken me this long! I will add Carp to my list of fish to go after because from your description it sounds like good fun!
Gold Branch at Bull Sluice above Morgan Falls dam is a good spot for carp. If you do a search at NGTO on Carp or Gold Branch you should come up with some good info.
If you really want to get into carp fishing, see if you can pick up a copy of “Carp on the Fly” by Barry Reynolds and Brad Befus. It’s a great introduction to the techniques and flies you need to use.
Thanks for the info bd! I am planning a trip to B&N later this week and will see if they have a copy of Carp on the Fly.
I have been asking around to find out where some carp are here in Montana. So far no luck West of the divide. There is one spot just on the other side that would only be about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me so I will probably check that one out.
