I played rugby once. I think the object of the game is to is to run around, hit each other, get in a big pile and then drink beer afterward.
I was just looking at the Orvis Hyros again and noticed that they had some of the discontinued Battenkill Large Arbors on sale for a closeout price.
Before you lock into a canoe, I would look at some of the hybrid boats like the Native Ultimate or the Wilderness System Commander.
I also love Lamsons and a Lightspeed 3.5 is my favorite 8wt saltwater flats reel, but I think they are too light for tarpon, even the 4. I am building a 12 wt right now and have been looking around for a decent reel without breaking the bank. Some of the around $300 reels I am looking at are the Orvis Hydros VI, Redington Delta 11/12, and the Sea Level Extreme IV or V. I’m leaning toward the Hydros since it comes in gold and matches the trim in my rod, but the Sea Level reels have been getting good reviews and are built like a tank. I’m not real sure any of them could be a match for a 100#+ tarpon.
I have an old Pflueger Medalist 1499 CJ that has a huge cork drag.
You guys better hide those guitars, the Feds may be after you. They raided Gibson Guitars last week claiming that the wood they were using was in violation of India and Madigascar laws (even though they have proof it was harvested legally). According to news reports, owners of guitars could be criminally liable. According to the Feds, the solution is to close the American plants and ship the jobs overseas. Ah, Big Brother at work.

There are two fly fishing clubs in the Tampa Bay area, Suncoast Fly Fishers and Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Club.
There are nylon ropes that would be strong enough and you could incorporate a snubber as a shock absorber.
I never hit anything so hard it knocked the motor off, but I had an auxiliary outboard on my sailboat. It was mounted on a outboard motor bracket attached to the transom. As a safety line, I used a stainless steel cable with a snap shackle on each end. When the motor was mounted, one end was attached to a pad eye on the back of the boat and the other attached to the motor.
The main reason I used it was to be able to remove the motor while on the water without fearing dropping it in. I moved the motor to the center of the cabin when racing to center the weight. My motor was an air cooled 5hp, but if the padeye is reinforced and a strong cable is used, the setup should work on any engine.

I am in the market to replace my drowned Pentax WP60 and just added a new point and shoot Canon SX130IS (a very nice camera by the way).
I have walked up on bears twice, once in Yellowstone and once in Sequoia National Park. The Yellowstone meeting was at a distance and the bear pretty much ignored us. In Sequoia, we walked right up on a bear that was standing in a bend in the path. Fortunately we froze and he walked off into the woods. Needless to say, we did not get a picture.
We are heading to Glacier National Park and Banff next week and will be taking the bear bells, but this time I plan on buying some bear spray.
The report indicates the couple saw the bear and turned to walk away and the bear followed them.
