David AndersonMemberFor all the Rugby fans in America –
(all 4 of you ;D)The US team (18th in the world ranking) did a very credible job vs. Ireland (8th in the ranking) yesterday. 😎
While the offence from the US is still lacking in creativity, the defence was outstanding and they held a great team to 22 points.
The US scored 10 points including a very exciting intercept try after the 80 minute buzzer..So while not a win, the Eagles made a great account of themselves and are showing great promise for the future..

Simon ChuMemberRugby is big in New Zealand.
Supporting the All Blacks is akin to liking apple pieSep 12, 2011 at 2:28 pm #50294
Mike McKeownMemberWell, we don’t got no hope and I don’t think prayer’s will help.
The Kiwi’s might get their hands on Web Ellis… lol

Bob RigginsMemberI played rugby once. Â I think the object of the game is to is to run around, hit each other, get in a big pile and then drink beer afterward.

John WilliamsMemberProbably a dumb question but is the WC Union or Leauge format?
I get very limited opportunity to watch the sport but every once in a while there is a Super Leauge match on delay and it is quite entertaining.

It’s Union.
League is a simplified version with less stoppages and rules.
I think Union is much better because the ball is always contested and all 30 players on the field are involved most of the time. That said, a Union game can be pretty dull if both teams play a conservative game and a league game played at pace can be very good.

Did you watch the game against the Welsh Mike?
You guys have gone out to a 8-1 odds at the local bookies. A tempting lazy tenner… SA rugby might not be pretty but they are World Champions… (twice) :-X

MemberBash the living snot out of each other is more like it – then drink beer together.
I once heard a US football commentator ask “How come more people aren’t killed playing this game”?
Great to see the US being so competitive in a world game. It would be absolutely fantastic for the game if the US and Canada were to get their shit together and expand this great game. As the T shirt says, “No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls”.
No tightening of the larynx yet Simon?
(That comment, for those who don’t understand, is a reference to the New Zealand All Blacks, usually the best team in the world at this game

Don’t think for one moment that those countries in which it is a minor sport (like Australia – who have won it twice by the way) don’t like to remind our dearly beloved Kiwi cousins of that fact……

MemberYou know how Americans are when it comes to sports if we didn’t create it or pervert it so far away from the original game that you can no longer recognize it it just doesn’t matter. I think this goes double for any sport popular in the realm of the former British Empire

Colin M.MemberBeing a former rugby player myself, i can say that we simply have too many sports for it to gain traction.

David AndersonMember If we had some guys that play in the NFL playing rugby, we’d be alot more competitive on the world stage.
Indeed.
If they could gather together 3 Aaron Gibson sized guys and teach them to scrum and bash through the defence you would have the front row from hell.. 😉www.dsaphoto.com

Simon ChuMemberAs for the ABs, it was already bad enough losing Read, but now no Dan, Richie, Mils, or Dagg. Â I sure hope the injuries clear up soon.
😉 :-X
