I agree the lens investment arguement is a valid one- though I would argue that investing in high quality lens performance is different than simply investing in lens
The Hiwassee is a beautiful river with different characteristics depending on water generation. It has a large insect population with many hatches to match. It is pretty much unwadeable when they are generating two or more generators, but very wadeable with one or less.
It is a pretty tough river to row a drift boat down, especially the trophy section, but once you learn the lines it is not too bad.
The average size of fish is maybe 10 inches with an occasional 14-20 inch fish thrown into the mix.
If I was going to make a two hour drive to the Hiwassee, I would try to hit the sulphur hatch in June, which can be really good.

Zach I am photographer and flyfisherman I live down in Ooltewah. Aperture is a cool program but it really needs to be run on a powerful desktop machine. Adobe has just come out with a public beta on a program called LIGHTROOM its similar to Aperture but its free in the Beta form now. I shoot mostly heavy commercial and Advertising stuff using a 22 Megapixel camera back but I use Lightroom with my Nikon Digital camera and I have couple of freinds that are using it with Canon cameras. You can download it free from Adobe/Macromedia. I t only runs on the Mac now but a PC Version is in the works. Try it out it works really well and probably will be less expensive than Aperture when the final release is issued. Nice pictures by the way.

:'( Good question. I was promised a “fishing car” by someone whose life I helped. Well, the gentleman was filled with good intentions. He called and told my wife that he had the perfect car for the Doc, a Cadillac. We were very kind in our refusal and told this kind man that it was ok and that he could do us another favour if we needed one. So, I’m still driving my Lexus as my fishing car. I’ve covered the drivers seat with a water- proof seat cover and take off my waders and boots before I get in. The trunk is another story. Can’t carry groceries or anything else bigger than a fly box. I’m eyeing my wifes Jeep and I may have to trade at some point. Thought about my daughter’s 23 year old learner VW that sat in the driveway. She wouldn’t let us get rid of it until she moved to CA. Had to pay to have it towed away. I guess I’m just not destined to have a fishing car. :-[ Silver Doc
Thinskin is a photolith( I think) on a clear backing- one interesting twist is to get foam with an edhesive backing( craft store) and

I’ve had some great guides and some bad ones, as have all of you. The guide that I thought was the most dangerous was one who led us on a trect that was the equal of an Everest climb. He took us to a “secret” spot. Ah Ha! the river looked about 1/2 inch wide. The climb down was was almost perpendicular and the slope was covered with ice and snow. If you slipped it would have been diasterous since there was little to break the slide. The out side temp. 28 and the water temp34. The worst was yet to come when my buddy went through the ice on the strem and it was hard to get hin out. The nexttrial took plce climbing back up the hill. It was better than any cardiac stress test. Never again. A trip that a mountain climber would have enjoyed.
