Yeah it’s Raw file but I’m not sure if I opened it in photoshop RAW. I’ll give it a shot and see if I can get the others to work. thanks for the help.

Thanks for the advise John. I just took the camera out in the front yard and put some of your advise to work. My filter is a Tiffen and does not have an indicating dot on it but there is writing on it and seemed to be roughly were a dot would be. The sun is still up but low in the sky and you were right. I could tell the biggest difference with it at a 90 to the sun. The first thing I noticed was the effect on the grass. I could see it looking into and at a 90 to the sun but I couldn’t tell much of a difference in the sky if I was looking into the sun. only at an angle.

Yeah… I know that’s the answer but I cant tell a difference when i turn the filter unless there on.

Thanks again everyone for all the help. I’ve got some real useful advice.

With the mention of polarized filters I have a few questions. I have one but the only way I can tell whats going on is to look through the filter while wearing polarized glasses, before I put it on the lense, and pay attention to what direction makes the sky blue and gray and then try and match it up to get the result I want. I cant ever tell looking through the camera. What’s the best way to use a polarized filter?

Thanks Jay. I’m working on figuring out things better and limiting the number of shots I take to get the one I like. I took a couple of the kid yesterday that I wasent happy with at all. Everything seemd blown out and out of focus. I was starting to think it was the lense. Then I fliped the camera over to auto and the shot came out fine. It was kind of a kick in the teeth.

Thanks Jay, I’ll give it a try. I feel a little overwhelmed trying to figure out all this camera stuff.

I’m Going to school at Weber state and never took my art credit. So when We decided to get the camera I signed up for the digital color photography class. We have only had it 2 days so far but I think it’s helping. I’ll put another picture or two up for critique when I think I have things figured out a little better.

Thanks for the help! I switched to the tungsten white balance and It seemed to help.  This is a whole new game, It will probably take a while to figure things out but I’m having fun playing around.

This is the setup I’m using for fly pic’s Is this ok or is there a better way? The camera is also sitting on a tripod for the pic’s.

I find Hardy reels too noisy. The sound of that ratchet is like a chainsaw.

That’s part of the charm. Letting the whole neighborhood know that you’ve got fish on! 😀

I have played with a couple of the new Hardy’s and I think there every bit as good as the old ones and probably better. Which makes me a little sad because there not made in England.

I know they claim the new perfects and made in England but I have my doubts. They Might be assembled in England but I wouldn’t be surprised if there machined in Japan, than shipped for assembly

Zach, as for the reel I want above all others it is an Olson, and it would go on a C.F. Burkheimer Two handed 8 wt.

Jay, I hate to disagree, I know most people believe that gear pawl reels are only suited for trout situations. However I don’t think there is a fish in freshwater that you cant catch on a gear pawl reel including Steelhead and Salmon. I think that most of the reels we use are way over engineered for what we do with them. Even on my sealed disc drag reels I set the drag just enough not to back spool and prefer to palm the spool rather than cranking up the drag.

But that’s just me an I realize most people want a bomb prof sealed drag for everything they fish for.

Cotter pins are no Good. the edges are too sharp and can cut your tippet. I have heard of people bending the loop of them up like on a salmon/steelhead hook and then using a Turl knot but I have not tried it that way.
