I would buy if it is high on the list ……and it is but below a 50 1.2 and 24 II ….To really grasp the effect you need to see these pics on full screen

Why canon doesn’t let the MP war go, and put one of these things out at 12-14 mp with great image quality is beyond me.

Marketing. The laymen will automatically think that higher MP number means better quality. Thats why you see point and shoot cameras at 12+ MP right now. It’s a feature that the public has grabbed onto to relate to image quality.

I don’t quite agree because provided your lens is sharp enough to deal with the extra resolution, a higher pixel count will render more detail.
Obviously, more detail won’t always make your picture ‘better’, but in a lot of situations, like landscapes or a fish portrait it could add a lot to the quality.
    (IMHO)

It should also be noted that $1600 is pretty cheap for that level of resolution compared to even a couple years back.

The bad news for me is the trade-in on my DsIII’s just took a beating.. 😮 ;D

give you 2 bits for one

good read this ..I think josh is right with one of his points about saturation of the market and the difficulties in editors etc finding good pics …Flicking through flicker, and other sites it is becoming apparent that there is a lot of dud images out there…when you see a good site and good images they really POP out and draw the eye if I was buying images I wouldn’t bother trying to buy sock but would employ the services of a good pro for a directed result … the standouts are easy to pick and the duds even easier …one could argue that while there is a saturation of duds the good pros will prosper …..

Externals can fail at teh drop of the hat ..I have lost 3 in 2 years ..2x Lacie and one segate (sic) using Western Digitals now but for my use I am thinking of just buying a few externals and backing up to them every now and again …Worst thing would be theft i guess ie some scrote pinching the comp and deciding to take the drives with them ….

Lauren, ‘Lake’ George is about 13 x 6 miles and was full about 8-10 years ago.

Even before the drought, it used to dry up every now & again seemingly without reason.

LAst Time it was full we stocked (Silvers Goldens)

Hi John I m new to this as well and have found some traps which leaves you with some money going down the drain ………….try this site for good strobist info ….http://www.zarias.com/ ….have a look at the tutorials etc He has just done a one light DVD which goes over simple and inexpensive gear and the pluses and minuses of both ….like how a 1600 Alien Bee with power pack can give you f16 as opposed to 8x580ex’s to do the same thing powerwise (this is a good price comparison only) ..then a light comparison when he wants to shoot at f2 and dials down a speedlight to 1/16th which he can’t do with the mono….

so to try to answer some of you Q’s from a hack ….the speedlight is cheap but has to be modified to get some half decent light

    Hi Matt

I have just gone through all of this myself ….

The Genesis are quite good I hear but I went for the Elinchrom DL4’s (kit) …they are very consistent and a very good lighting system…….The Genisis are raved at prophotolife.com . What ever way you go start with the 400’s + you can dial down but not up …my 400’s dont go over 1/4 power that often ….

or you could get some speedlights and strobe it

The 40d takes a great shot …but i wished I had waited a bit until I got mine …they dropped by a few hundred in the first 3 months ….I have the 100mm2.8 macro and it is great ………the 50mm 1.8 is a great lens as well
