In colorado the guys who wear them are mostly wannabe guides. The other main type of buff wearers I see are the type who want to fish right across the river from you. I swear, the only two times I’ve lost my cool on the river because of someone crowding me, the jackass was wearing a buff.

I agree that the charlies mysis is killer. It is about the easiest mysis to tie and very effective. If you are fishing right at the outlet, i.e. the toilet bowl, I prefer a more clear mysis like a solitude mysis or another epoxy pattern. They are more clear when they come out of the lake but turn to a milkier color as they die.

One thing i like to do on a charlies mysis is mix in a little uv pearl dubbing with the egg yarn for the body. Gives the fly a subtle flash that the bows love.

I see a lot of stuff for line to get caught on. Also i think a guide boat should have better protection for your extra rods. Those rod holders are a joke.

I would suggest avoiding the blue below green mtn. In the winter it is pretty sketchy getting down there and back up without a freeslide. prettty icy and steep.

The best shop in the area is probably breckenridge outfitters. Cutthroat has a well earned bad reputation amongst colorado anglers. I’d fish the blue in town and the dream stream for big fish oppurtunities. the blue can be pretty tough at times.

If those aren’t fishing well head over to parshall on the colorado for an afternoon. You can usually find some risers there and there are a couple of holes that just stack up with fish in the winter time

The start football season is an event that i wait for all summer. It sognals the coming of fall and the exodus of crowds on the river during weekends. I can’t wait for football to start so i can go to my local river (upper colorado) and fish on the weekend w/o so damn many people.

Once elk season starts and we get the first snow the crowds drop off even more.

i’m not familiar with those waters, but in my area the charlie boy hopper is a solid pattern. They tie up easily and float very well. There is a tutorial on the charlies fly box site.

I work for a shop near the upper CO in grand county. I see a lot of guides on the water from summit county. the crew  from breck outfitters are top notch.

The ‘other shop’ has some good guides as well. but, a reputation for being snotty toward customers @ times. If you do book a trip through them, request shane. He’s a good guy and good guide. If you think you might end up fishing the colorado in grand county, I’ll be glad to offer suggestions on access etc..

better not let your oar touch the rocks in the river in colorado either. That’s tresspassing. There is a stretch of river in my area where i’ve been told there are surveillance cameras on a stretch of private water

someone told me they had done really well using ‘Charlies Mysis’ a few weeks ago. He had pics to prove it. I’d tie a few of those up for the trip. The upper CO has been fishing well the past few weeks too.
