    Thanks guys.  Pretty fun shooting your kid doing something you both love to do.

    Ethan I was using an SB800 handheld while my on-camera flash was firing (camera in commander mode).  Kept working the flash around a clock like pattern with my left hand until I got rid of the shadows from the cap brim.  Kept the camera wedged between my legs with a monopod to stabilize.

    It’s probably obvious that all these shots were taken mid day so I was working with what I could carry in my pack for a couple miles – on top of a two year old.  No reflectors or sun shades utilized.

    Couple other shots I thought were fun – trying to mess around in post to come up with something different.

    Now these next shots aren’t great, but they crack me up so had to share;

    Behind the Net

    Fighting a Bruiser

    Next Sequence – His Pick up and lay down;

    He is the two year old DEVASTATOR!

    Mark,

    Nikon, but it’s only because, Nikon was what the guy sold me when I bought my first DSLR.  Micah has many-many more years behind a lens than myself and would be a better person to tell you the differences of why to go with which brand.  For better or worse, I didn’t know any better when I bought my first DSLR.  Started upgrading lenses and before you knew-it, I had a couple new bodies to go with the lens upgrades. So for now I’m too heavily invested to make a switch.

    I made the suggestions above, because the question was based on Nikon bodies and kit’s. Specifically the non-vsr lenses in the kit. I figured with the 40x and the stabilization of a platform to shoot from you would get both the high megapixels and sharpness at a low cost with new bodies coming out.

    So the rugged question is relative to the anglers ability to stomach the destruction of his gear and the terrain in which he travels. From my perspective, I don’t buy a camera that I wouldn’t take out into the field, on the water, in a toon etc etc.  So I’m not sure that really answers your question, but maybe lends itself more to my mindset.

    Overall, been very happy with how my Nikon bodies have held up. As you probably can guess from some of my past posts I’ve taken them into some pretty hairy spots, and the shutters still click shut every time.

    Sorry if that sounds totally arrogant, I’m assuming that you’re reading my fishing reports & posts.  That’s probably a bad assumption and not trying to infer anything.

    D40x and buy a monopod. No immediate need for the vr then.

    Man Hudson just asked me if we were going fishing tomorrow. I forgot I had circled the day with him on our calendar in the kitchen. We drew a big fish on tomorrow so he would know when we were going.

    Anyone besides me notice Aarons mind is off fishing ??

    Nice baby shots BTW..

    🙂

    You’re right Dave, sorry haven’t fished in like 2.5 weeks. I’m both going nuts and falling love with my new little girl. Sorry – will try and get out here in a couple days and fish so I have something more in line with the fishy-related-threads to post.

    How big a hook do you think you could tie that on? Also, do you think you could tie them in a Perch Pattern?

    Love the pic, but maybe crop it from bottom up.  Horizon line is at mid point in photo and from what I’ve seen, that is only used when reflections are incorporated. Just my opinion, I really like the image as is, just tried cropping it here on my machine and liked how the composition fell together when it was cropped-up.

    Yah, had the camera for a bit, and it’s been killing me not to run out and click away. Figured it was worth the wait.

    I shoot with the 105VR a ton.  Most likley more than I should.

    Not tack sharp, but was trying to look for a softer image. Something that held his -just got done sobbing gaze.

    Christmas Pictures, again not tack sharp, hand holding and using natural light from a bay window.  Something draws me to then natural lighting.  I just find it pleasing….

    My niece, at four already a DIVA -again the 105 vr.

    So I use it a lot while fishing too.

    In my kit, I seem to always pull out the 105 vr.
