The Itinerant AnglerSteve –
Yeah, it’s I-20 to Birmingham.

The Itinerant AnglerThanks for all the advice. I will definitely get some step-up rings.

The Itinerant AnglerIf you guys were float tubing, I think we did right around Bowman’s Island.

The Itinerant AnglerWow I was wrong on that one.

The Itinerant AnglerI am sorry to hear about your wife but I may just take you up on that Jeff.

The Itinerant AnglerWe hit some of the same water on Saturday morning. Almost no one was out there thanks to deer hunting and football.

Lauren caught a few nice browns nymphing, while I ran the canoe for once (usually she’s the one having to do all the paddling).

Did not eat any, though. That’s a pretty good idea. BTW, I was impressed with some folks tailgating right by the river on Saturday.

The Itinerant AnglerLast two questions….
1. What are “step up rings”?
2. How do you know if a lens is a “fast” lens for indoor shots?
What I hope to get is a wide angle lens that is also fast.
Thanks!

The Itinerant AnglerJohn, those VB photos look a lot better than the action shots I tried during my daughters volleyball games last year. The indoor lighting wreaks a lot of action photos for me. Only a few shots came out great That was with a Tamron 28-80 mm lens. It was way too slow for action sports shots. Most action shots with the Tamron lens were way too blurry.
I am hoping my Canon 70-200 MM IS lens works much better for me indoors. It worked very well for action shots during outdoor soccer games this year. I know it is not for real close-ups for obvious reasons. Even for wildlife shots it was great for me this year.
If the Tokina 12-24 will work for close-up inddoors as well as wide angle outdoor shots, I would not hesitate to spend the money for it. I would even forgo another cane rod or another SxS shotgun for it. 🙂
The only real negative is I have to buy SR filters for another lens size.
BTW, are those photos touched-up with Photoshop CS5 or they the raw photos?
This was the best I could do with my Tamron lens…

The Itinerant AnglerAs for price, I have to admit I was a little shocked to see $180 sticker prices on wading boots across the board.

The Itinerant AnglerAbe –
I have absolutely no doubt that it’s well intentioned. I just think it’s an unsupported hypothesis: not that felt is bad–there’s no question felt soles can be a disease vector. I just don’t think the overall effect would be any different without them.
In fact, I predict the banning of felt in the states where that’s happened will have no effect on the spread of invasives. There’s no question anglers introduced things like didymo and whirling disease into new watersheds, but that would have happened had felt soles never been invented. And there’d be a lot more angling injuries to boot.

The Itinerant AnglerThe IA member testimonials here have me so pumped I have to buy this Tokina 12-24 lens too, which means more SR filters too.
Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerI also don’t think any of the rubber products are in the same league as felt.

The Itinerant AnglerKEH had a Tokina 28-70 F2.8 wide andle lens (Canon EOS) for $159 in condition BGN. That price made it very attractive, if it photo results were perfect I imagine you could live with some scratches on the metal casing. It is gone now, so someone decided it was worth it.

The Itinerant AnglerI predict a Boise State-Oklahoma rematch in the National Championship this year.

The Itinerant AnglerThanks for the awesome photo examples from both JayMorr & John Bennett!! Now I have something to shoot for.
