What they call skipjack and what you and I are used to calling skipjack (aka ladyfish) aren’t the same thing.

Several of the guides I fished with out west used two and even three fly streamer rigs to cover different parts of the column.
In Arkansas:
#16 Trout Crack or Humpback Scud
In Tennessee:
#20 Zebra Midge (Black and Silver) or #14 BH Pheasant Tail/Copper John
Elsewhere:
Probably a #2 Zuddler in Olive

I’ve accepted a position with an insurance defense firm in Marietta, Georgia, called Hicks, Casey, and Foster. I will continue to write, and I currently have five feature assignments to do this summer for American Angler as well as already-written features in two other magazines (Fly Fisherman and The Drake). Plenty going on.

Oddly enough, I find that it is in my smaller gear that I like to have the highest quality of equipment, perhaps because I know it won’t get beat around as much. My 3 weight of choice is currently a St. Croix Legend Ultra, a 7’9″ 3 piece model, and I match it with a Ross Colorado Zero reel.
If I had to buy a new 3 weight setup right now, I would get a closed out Scott G off eBay along with a Hardy Lightweight series reel in the matching size (I can’t remember which name Hardy uses). Three weights are never subjected to any real stress, so a click drag reel is plenty, and you definitely will want to get as limber a rod as you can find. Other options include Winston’s discontinued IM6 (now the WT), and, in a more bargain category, St. Croix’s Avid or Temple Fork Outfitters’ Professional Series.

In my case I get the worst of both worlds because I am taking the TN bar this summer and the GA bar next February.
The Clouser line is an amazing piece of engineering but probably poorly suited to bonefish, as it’s made to flip large flies over at a distance.
I was fishing a private spring creek off the Snake one day, with a very good guide and another good angler.
