Ah, the nihilists.
Mike, it’s always been hard for me to even hear a South African accent in my head, but when you write “Yip,” like that, it comes through loud and clear. 🙂
Stuff bad down there too? I’m interested in whether our overseas friends are on the same point on the curve that we are.

In the alternative, you can simply mail me a letter via U.S. Postal Service and James will be sure to read it the next time he sneaks over to steal my mail and clean my windows for better outside viewing at night.
In the second episode, which I could not prevent myself from watching, I like how “Eileen” manages to bust her butt (and you’re right about the sleeves), then when she is “saved” by the guy exactly one rodlength downstream, she comes out of the water and does a little stripper shimmy (no doubt regressing to her previous training).

Really? No offense, man, but I sincerely doubt that. What number are you calling? That’s one of those things people throw around on these boards that can be really hurtful to a company and, frankly, is patently untrue. I have called the 800 number on Scott’s website no fewer than four times in the last month and they always answered and put me through to the person I needed. In fact, when my rod shipped back to me, they called *me* to let me know.
Are you aware that they are in the Mountain time zone? I often call out west at 9:00 or 10:00 AM my time, only to realize that no one is at work yet in the west.

Scott is fine, y’all. They are hiring new hands and improving their repair times. I recently broke a G2 – it was evaluated, repaired (or in my case replaced) and returned to me within 2 weeks of when it left my door. I received an email updating me on the progress, which warned me it could be four weeks before I saw my rod back, but they were just hedging their bets – the rod was on my doorstep later the same week.
Scott is owned by two investors, one of whom is the president and part owner of a major auto company. Obviously this is not a great time to be in the American auto business, but the commitment has been made and my friends at the company say the capital is flowing in as expected.
Scott got behind for two reasons: (1) demand for the S4 exceeded expectations, so the people who usually took a day a week to wrap repairs had to be reassigned to S4 production, while the rest of the rod line also backed up on production; and (2) one of the owners took what amounted to a large dividend out of the company rather than allowing the company to re-invest its profit in internal infrastructure (i.e. shipping and rod production improvements).
Scott is absolutely not going out of business.
Let’s see who can be the first person to spot the insane duck hunter reference in the next American Angler. 😉
