Those Hardy’s must be pretty nice reels to last that long and still keep going
I know that there is no “best” reel out there, just thought that it would make for some fun conversation. I was able to catch trout after trout on the old reel that my grandpa gave me and the drag barely functioned at all.
I just thought that I would see what reel is in everyone dreams. What reel they choose for trout over any other (be it over manufactured or not)

I’ve heard people say the Hardy Perfect, why does that reel have such a reputation anyway?
JT–yeah i know that its pretty subjective, thats kinda why I wanted to know what everyone thoug. And yes, most 6 weights are over engineered for trout lol.
The line up for the Sasquatch Music Festival is always great it seems, need to get up there!
I was thinking of the 6 weight spey for sure because its a little heaver then a 5 with a switch rod. Its kinda tough to make this choice, its like buying a car, lots of brands and models and they are all pretty well made so its just up to what you like the looks of i guess.
I’m going with with either the Nautilus NW 7+ or a Ross Evolution 4 or Vexsis 4, it will be used on my single handed 7 weight and on a 6 weight spey… Just need to decide!

great program for quick fixes and such, also a great way to keep things organized. Still no replacement for photoshop though 🙂
Yeah, its a tough one really, I’m thinking of just buying a switch rod to use with my single handed rod reel. Thinking of just using a switch 5/6 weight and a Ross Vexsis 4 reel, it would hold my 7 weight line on one spool and could handle a 5 weight spey line. I think that would work pretty well for summer run steelhead

Zach, just checked the weights of the Ross Momentum LT and the Torque are about the same at 8 1/2 ounces. Looks like most of the 9-10 weight reels are between 8-9 1/2 ounces. I’m going to try the Dec Hogan series with different reels on them to see what they feel like. Thanks for the info as always!
What do you all think of the Galvin Torque G-10 Large Arbor for a 7 weight spey reel? checked it out today and it seems very very well made. Opinions would be great!
Mike, I did see that a lot of people use non “Spey” reels on their rods, I was just remarking on how spendy they seem to be. I’ thinking that the Ross CLA 5 or Lightspeed 3.5 or 4 would be good choices, Looks like I will just have to buy another reel for my single handed 7 weight.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I will be checking out all the reels that you guys are talking about in the shop sometime this week. I’m glad that you guys are talking about size of reel and capacity of backing because I will need some serious backing with the line.
I plan on using the Rio Skagit multi tip line on the reel that I buy. Seems like all the spey reels are wayyyy out of my price range though. Need to keep saving!

I was considering the CLA-4 since it will be a 7 weight spey line. I know some other people that have suggested that real as well, so that reel is highest on my list. But I would love to hear more opinions!
No Snook in oregon. Thanks for all the comments everyone! I’m still working and trying to improve my images. My goal is to create a sensation in the viewer other then just a good painting (if that is understandable at all)

I have a Canon 20D and a Canon 50D and I have never protected the screens, they still both look brand new. I’m careful with my equipment but not the careful.
I wouldn’t really worry about it. I have used other peoples cameras with protectors on the screen and they just seem to get in the way.
