I hear ya James, you should see the way BD flaunts it. Driving around in that vintage Toyota mini van with Hardee’s bags covering the floor. And you should see his yacht! Why it’s a whooping 17 ft 1980 something Bass tracker, with duel seats, aaaand, an electric trolling motor! It even has a colony of worker ants that will clean up a sandwich crust should you drop it on the floor.
Then he has the nerve to show up to fish all decked out in fly fishing attire. Why he looks like he stepped right off the pages of,,,,, Wal-Mart. 😮

I sure wish I went to law school so I could be rich like BD… 😉 ;D

Yea it was my Olympus. One of these days I’m going to buy a real camera like Zach’s Nikon.
I am actually thinking about getting an Optio WP. It’s alot smaller (fits in any fly box pocket), 6 MP I think, and its waterproof.

in reply to: Anyone know any Atlanta lawyers who need a clerk? #11169

Hey Zach I have a few connections in middle GA.

I used to live 90 miles south of Atlanta in Milledgeville and still have family who run a marina on lake Sinclair.

Yup! Great fish to catch on a fly rod and easy too. I wish I could get you some of my killer pearl wooly buggers. It’s the third and fourth fly down from the top left.

The only time I do that is when I’m checking in a motel on an overnighter with the guys. You shoud see the looks we get at the hotel in rural Celina TN. :-*

BD that Loomis 3wt is puurrfect for swinging some of the riffles on Caney. Next time out we’ll fish a section together and I can show you how I do it (or you can pay someone to show you the right way). Like I mentioned before I miss several fish and I do break off from time to time. but I do get lucky every now and again and it is a deadly way to target fish sipping

I hear ya splitshot those darned tippet dispensers are worthless. The Costal is a great pack with a fair amount of room. Here is what I carry in mine, four C&F boxes a streamer box, and a wide range of toys, tippet, and leaders.

Very nice Cameron. Is that a 2x hook?

in reply to: Nemes or Hughes? #11244

That’s funny Cameron, all this time I thought it was just my inexperience that was causing me to miss so many fish while a swinging soft. I am also a big fan of swinging softs. My little 1 wt is perfect for this in my home stream.

Is it just me or do the fish that you do manage to hook on a soft seem fight harder then nymph caught fish of similar size?

I wonder if it could be that Trout feeding on emergers have been in the river long enough to learn the feeding pattern therefore they are a little stronger fish then the fresh from the truck stockers… This feeding pattern is demanding on the fish since it is constantly swimming in shallow, usually faster, sections of the river. Anyway not sure about all that and BD thinks I am crazy for saying so, but I still love the swing!

John/Rocky Mt. has quite the reputation in the rod building world and not really a good of one…. Seems he sold alot of people blanks/components and for whatever reason they never got them. I dealt with John a couple of times and both times had to press the issue of getting my stuff after I paid. Tom Kirkman removed his link from Rod Building.org because of mutable complaints of merchandise not received or received very, very, very, late. I would hate to see someone on this site go through that.

He is no doubt a very nice guy and was always very helpful when he used Tom’s board. I don’t like bad mouthing anybody but he did make his own bed.  Maybe, hopefully, he’s got his stuff together now.

As a side note some of the blanks John used to build those fine rods were Dan Craft Signature V series. The patent for that series was sold out from under Dan Craft and they are no longer available. I think Dan plans to introduce a new series very close to the original soon but I’m not sure when they will be available again.

I had a good time Rusty despite that darned tippy canoe. BTW BD, did I mention I have a Gheenoe for sale??

Thanks again Zach. Keep em coming!

in reply to: Waterproof boat bag #11077

I have been that route Zach. I have a nylon boat bag with the hard bottom and zip top. These bags are krap at keeping rain out but work quite nicely at holding it in. I want a bag that doesn’t cost me $200 and will not let water enter if I don’t want it to. I keep my Cell, camera, extra fly boxes, survival kit (granola bars and a lighter) and a video camera this bag. I need it to be 100% Waterproof. These look like just the ticket.

in reply to: 2 piece vs. 4 piece #11095

I will probably never buy another 2 piece blank.

in reply to: If you were a customer #11058

I would like a little reading section where there were some local books, articles, etc, on Fly fishing, Gear reviews, Local fishing, etc. Let it be known that customers are welcome to make themselves at home and read awhile. There should also be some free coffee/water located close by. And don’t rush me unless it’s time to close.

Ask me if I need help and if I say no, then let me browse the store in peace. I forget easily and if you’re talking to me I will forget to BUY something from you. Don’t shadow me for Gods sake. I won’t steal anything I promise, If I need you, I will find you. Imagine walking around Wal-Mart with employees following you around commenting on everything you pick up. Very annoying!

Invest in a few hand held shopping baskets pleeeease!!!!!

Make your store as comfy feeling as possible and never be condescending to a customer unless he is an Ahole first.

Never let anyone out the door without at least asking if they need any help, advice, etc.

A clearance aisle with new material every week or two will bring people back time and time again. Even if you have to buy some cheap junk and price it at cost, it will get people in the door and that is half the battle. We all like to think we got a real deal.

Hooked a muskie the size of a VW but it spit the hook at me and grinned as it swam off. Caught several Smallmouth.

in reply to: The Itinerant Angler Podcast Episode #2 #10975

Zach I hope you did some serious editing on that thing. ;D
I was fun to do but I never feel like I get anything accomplished with these things. Radio is the same way. I think a real good idea that was mentioned by another poster, would be an on the water interview. You might have to edit a few cuss words but all in all you should get some better info that way.

in reply to: Favorite Rods #11021

Dancraft 8’4″ Sig V 4wt. Sweetest Trout rod on the planet.

in reply to: Soft Hackle #54980

I agree with Splitshot on the peacock color. Another color that works well when the yellow midges are flying is white or yellow.

I sometimes put on a couple of colors when trying to figure the fish out.
If they are feeding a little deeper I put on a soft with a weighted Tellico on the end.  I have slaughtered some fish with this combo especially when there were Caddis in the area.

Where do you guys buy your skins?
