    1. I’d do the Macro 100 or 50mm

    2. I’d go with this. Panasonci/Leica

I’d like to point out here that I recently turned down buying Scott S3 because of posts like this one and one over on Fly Fisherman.Too bad because it was one great casting rod but I’m afraid of what I’ll have to go through if I ever break it. If there really is a problem and I assume the number of complaints I’ve read about are legit, then Scott really needs to deal with this publicly. They should squash it like a bug or it is going to continue to cost them business. Just my opinion as a consumer.

When I imagine a cover that would make we walk across the room Gray’s Sporting Journal comes to mind. The simplicity and “old timey feel” always makes me want to pick that magazine up and read it cover to cover.
What I would strive for in a cover is what would make this cover and magazine so good that somebody would consider stealing it from the magazine rack in the Dr’s office.

I’m sure AA sells a lot more mags then GSJ though.

    Thanks guys.

John this is the kind of information I was looking for and yes the lens if F4.

That’s a good idea,I have a 50 F1.4 and a 50 F2.8. I’ll meter using them next time and see what I can get away with. I still had lots of

Finally got around to uploading a few of these photos. These are straight out of the camera saved as .jpg and resized. I know Sony has had a bad rep for noise but I’m very happy with these results. Most of these are at ISO 1600 some are 1250.

    Thanks for the link Scott!

That’s what I’m talking about Neal! That first guy looks like he has a 400 F4? and a 80-200 2.8 which should cover most everything for that kind of shooting.

    Mike A –

I love the crop of the ants, do have other shots?

Not really Neal I was in a hurry to get my dog to the water and he was in an even bigger hurry to get there. The crop you can do with these lenses and still have great IQ is just

I’m lazy today so I’ll just cut and paste the report from my board.

Fished Cumberland last weekend with Zach and Lauren Matthews and Travis Wiles (Twiles).
It was a fun weekend and the weather was great. I really love early fall when leaves are just starting to turn, the humidity is gone, and the colors and smells seem so much more vivid and sharp. The fishing was pretty good but not any better then Caney Fork. I don’t think I’d make the drive since Caney seems to be on fire lately. On the other hand the Cumby is known for good dry fly action and this weekend was no exception. Sun there was a massive hatch of winged ants going on and the fish were responding with toilet bowl flushing rises. We were looking to get a large fish but all the fish rising was more then I could stand. I quickly tied on a size 16 black ant and it was game on. It was fish after fish (all small) until I was almost out of gink. Fish on a dry is great fun and I’ll sacrifice fish size to chase the top bite most any day.

It was a fun weekend with some really great people. We’ve made this trip an annual event for about four years now and I was wondering how long it would continue. I imagined us as old men and women sitting around that wood porch reminiscing about these days. I wondered what the places would look like 20 years from now and imagined how good the fishing could be. I was thankful they didn’t stock Taimen in the Cumby haha!!

    WOW!!

in reply to: One addiction feeds another. RC plane photo shoot. #64974

Glad you enjoyed them and if you see where some improvements can be made please, please, please, feel free to critique.

If you have a RC Airstrip it’s a great place to practice up on photo skills and shooting around total strangers.

I bought this Sigma 5.6 400mm tele macro last year and had just about given up on it until this set of photos. That lens just never impressed me with color reproduction, sharpness or focus speed on my A100. Once I strapped it to the A700 it came to life. To give credit where it is due the 700 focus motor is in a different universe then the 100. It was never a problem searching for focus at all, in fact.
Getting the plane in the lens was the hardest part because those planes are pretty darn fast. This is a great way to learn how to raise a big lens and put it in the right spot so the subject is in the frame wehn the camera meets your eye. I got progressively better as the day went on. Still, the best method was to find it waaay out as it made an approach and follow it until it got into range. If it was within 100 yards it was almost impossible to get it in the frame before it buzzed outa range.

The people there were great folks with a big addiction to fun. The big camera seemed to give them nerves of steel. As soon as the big lens came out the aerial stunts began. This means at some point you’re going to get something interesting. I didn’t know this was coming so I didn’t get a great shot since I had to find the plane as it was in close and at flying at full speed. This shot is the Miss Arkansas inverted below the weeds, and she made it back up!

Then as she came in to land I think she ran outa fuel and fell short of the runway. Just like the Razorbacks always do. Ha!

The fishing has slowed as usual this time of year. I assume the DO is low on the release water at the dam and fishing has been tough at times after the pulse. Fish early!

    Flies to bring would be
    Black and copper zebra, 16-22
Black and silver zebra same as above.
    Black fly larva and adult
WD40 and RS2 olive and grey.
    Lots-o-midges in various colors.
