Tim AngeliMemberThanks guys. It was a really fun weekend, and I’m already planning to head back up there this upcoming weekend.
Lee, the father/son trips are always fun. My dad is awesome and he’s always down for a fishing trip. We fish a lot together. I’m glad you liked that first brook trout pic. I was really happy with how that one turned out.
Mark, did you go to U of M? I spent 5 years here and racked up a couple of degrees, but I’ll likely be heading westward in about 2 months. I’m trying to capitalize on as much Michigan fishing as I can get in between now and then.
Andrew, I would say that the size of that fish is slightly above average of what we were seeing, which I was definitely not disappointed with. 🙂 There were a lot of big fish and a few absolute monsters cruising around.
Michael, how long are you going to be up there? I’m probably going to head back over there on Saturday if you’re interested in meeting up. Cross your fingers for some warmer weather and you should be in a for a great trip (as it stands now the weather reports look good). You’ll have a hayday if a hack like me can catch fish out there . 😉

Tim AngeliMemberGreat stuff as usual John.
Tim AngeliMemberI saw some in a local shop the other day.
Tim AngeliMemberDavid,
I’ll try post pictures of that fly tonight.
Tim AngeliMemberEric,
I agree with all of Spencer’s recommendations.
Tim AngeliMemberAs always, great stuff Corey and Aaron! I down-right love your posts. I live vicariously through you guys. Looks like an awesome few days of fishing.

P.S.
Tim AngeliMemberI am by no means anything close to an expert in this area, but I agree with Will that it’s not a Hex (Hexagenia limbata) for a number of factors like he said. Wrong size, wrong wing structure and placement, etc.
As Aaron said, it could be a Leucrocuta hebe, but the size is big for that.
Another possibility is an eastern green drake (Hexagenia rigida). It’s that time of year for the drakes to start popping (we’ve started to see some around here). The name can be somewhat misleading because they often actually have more of a yellow/brown coloration. That would be guess. Will, do you think that’s a possibility?
My second guess would be that it’s a large Sulpher. It would be on the very large side for that, but the coloration looks right and it’s the right time of year too. However, the more I dig for info the more confused I get. I really don’t know enough entomology to say exactly what it is, but those are at least a few ideas.

Tim AngeliMemberCongrats guys!
Tim AngeliMemberEven smaller world, I lived in Holland too before I moved to Ann Arbor for school.
Tim AngeliMemberSpencer,
The good news, I found the pattern you’re talking about.
The bad news, they had one left.I can post a picture if you want so you can let me know if it’s the actual pattern you’re talking about.
Tim AngeliMemberThanks Michael.
Tim AngeliMemberJohn, looks like a really good time.
Tim AngeliMemberMike,
Zach did a really good podcast with K.C. Walsh of Simms. He gets into a fair amount of information about Gore-Tex vs. Competitors if I remember correctly. It has been quite a while since I listened to it, but I think that might give you the information you want. After listening to that I decided that from now on I’m going with Gore-Tex and only Gore-Tex.
Good luck!
Tim
Tim AngeliMemberSpencer,
Any chance you want to post a picture of that fly?
Tim AngeliMemberMark,
There are already a lot of great ideas here.
Tim AngeliMemberI’ll definitely give some a try next time I hit up some smallmouth…which will hopefully be soon.
Tim AngeliMemberMatt,
I’ve looked at these picture probably 15 times by now, and I still keep coming back.
Tim AngeliMemberI think Zach summed it up really well.
Tim AngeliMemberVery cool.
