….and don’t forget…..because the heat is radiated a full 360 degrees, and because of the ceramic’s ability to hold the heat….you can cook twelve hours on a double handful of lump charcoal.

This type of setup is quite common among Eggheads with a safe track record. There is a 2 inch gap between the surface of the Egg and the decking. The fire is contained withing the firebox and insulated with an inch of ceramic. It is sitting on a concrete block. I’ve had cooks that lasted 14 hours with no problems.

Neal….Thanks. It’s a fun hobby. If anyone is interested in getting an Egg at a discounted price and you’re near ATL….go to the Eggtoberfest this fall at their distribution center (I thing it’s on the northside. They have a cooking contest and use about 100 brand spanking new Eggs. At the end of the day, they sell the “used” Eggs for a discounted price. Mine retailed for $799 and I got it for $499 at the ‘fest.
There’s a trail a bit up the road going towards the NE entrance.

Eric….your family would enjoy the Tower Falls hike. There’s a nice place to spread a blanket and picnic or swim/wade at the bottom of the canyon. Of course you would be off doing your thing 😉

The gentleman in the top photo appears to be high-sticking a nymph in a downstream manner. I thought this was sacrilege in the Old Country?
One word of note…..the hike into Hellroaring Creek is about an hour-and-a-half while the trip down to the base of Tower Falls if 15 minutes. So if you want to do a half-day…..Tower Creek / Falls would be ideal.
Think foam hoppers.

The Hellroaring Creek Trail is pretty tough coming out….going down is easy…..just take your time. Carry a water filter and keep your canteen full. Scenery is a 10.
The Yellowstone @ Tower is not bad at all. Same scenario…a bit of a climb coming out. Once you are in the canyon….unless the topography has changed due to floods…..you can only go upriver from Tower Creek due to steep canyon walls. You can easily spend the day down there. There are typically some tourists at the bottom where the trail comes out. The kids are there…swimming and throwing rocks in the water. Don’t be discouraged….head upriver a few hundred yards and you’ll find solitude.

Are you opposed to 8 to 10″ brook trout? I can put you on some streams where you’ll catch a bunch….otherwise….
Consider hiking into the Hellroaring Creek drainage. You can fish the Yellowstone and Hellroaring Creek….makes for a good day trip. Also consider the Blacktail Deer Creek trail into the canyon to fish the Yellowstone.
Other good day trips:
Cache Creek / Lamar River …although it sometimes fishes slow during low water years due to increases in the water temp.
Yellowstone River at Tower Falls (hike down to the canyon floor and sling hoppers.
Upper Pebble Creek via the Warm Creek trailhead. Pretty rough hike but the cutties can be fun on a 4 weight.
I agree with Zach….3rd Meadow is a pull for a day trip. The 1st Meadow has big fish but they are educated.

#1 is my favorite due to the “eye contact” I’m getting from the subject. Looks like something out of a Star Wars movie.
Dusty…that photo is a exactly how I tie them. I also add a few strands of pearlescent flashabou. I also add the banding like the top one….using a permanent Sharpee marker.I don’t use any weight….neutral bouyancy seems to work best….and it’s strictly a sight-fishing affair for me.

Were you in a small aircraft or helo for the aerials….or commercial aircraft on an approach to MSY?

I bought the Canon D-10 for my son…not so much to take UW shots….but just didn’t want him to fry the camera when it got a little damp. It survived a week of rolling around in the bottom of his kayak while fishing the Everglades/Keys. I have no complaints but can’t compare it to other UW P&S cameras since it’s the only one I’ve used. The only “con” I can see is it’s shaped like an egg…..so it is not real comfortable and compact resting in your shirt pocket.

I also use my S90 in its housing for other shots.
I think you’ve mentioned it before but….which housing do you have for your S90? I’m considering the Ikelite housing for that camera….looks to have a larger diameter port than the Canon version. There’s also an aluminum housing out for the S90 called the Fisheye Fix. Neat looking housing but costs about $800.
