    Sorry for the delay…

This was taken from our condo balcony. I was able to walk 200 yards and blind cast to bones.

My lovely better half enjoying the view during our deep water charter that was very exciting within the first 20 minutes. We had a 400 lb + marlin, according to the Captain, hit. I was up with Captain Tony and got to see the take. Amazing! He made a quick turn to the port side and made one jump and then went south. He spun off 700 yards before you could blink and then he was gone. Broke off. That was all the excitement we had the rest of the day. We did get to see 150 lb tuna busting a bait ball. It amazed me to see them jump as high as they did. By the time we got to them they were gone.

Roadside lunch one day. Shrimp! Yum, yum it was good.

One of the many flats I walked to fly fish for bones. I was able to cast to many bones and had only one look at the fly. According to the guide, the numbers were high but the hookups (or lack of) were common. He did say that I should have had a couple hit, but no such luck. He felt so bad about the lack of hookups, he gave a free day of guiding, but still nothing.

For those that say there are no flats on Oahu. I laugh at that. I bet I walked on over 500 acres of flats and was able to cast to bones that were from 4-15 lbs. and that were as close as 10 ft and as far as 100 ft away.

That is some serious change for a glass rod.

in reply to: Carry and Conceal permit #22263

“I wonder if Simms has considered making a holster for their G4 waders?…”  ;D ;D

    It will be a $200 upgrade.  [smiley=evil.gif]

Several states have reciprocal CC permits, it only takes little investigating to find out.

in reply to: When will it stop? #22152

What I’m referring to is waaaay overpriced stuff like $400+ rain coats, $700 waders, $12 box of “fly fishing” sinkers, $100 spool of fishing line, you get the point.

Last I checked you can get a decent pair of of waders for $80 (hodgemen wade lights) sure they will probably only last one season instead of two but are the simms really gonna last 7 seasons? Plus the market is so saturated with raincoats that you can spend as little or as much as you want (My top of the line commercial fishing coat was about $100).  If you are paying $12  a box for sinkers you are just stupid, I don’t think I’ve spent that much in the last 10 years on sinkers, $100 spool of fly line let me refer you to SA’s easy start line, great line for most fishing situations, its $30

To complain about high prices mean you are not shopping around and just buying high end gear because it is high end gear.

I have a pair of the Hodgemans that you referenced for 4 years and had zero issues.

I was raised under that theory as well.

in reply to: T-shirt Payment Information #21718

I think I brought it up during the first t-shirt that Zach did a year or so ago…but is anyone interested in doing a “Itinerant Angler” [glow=yellow,2,300]t-shit[/glow]/fishing photo contest?  Like…coolest photo fly fishing with your new t-shirt on?  We could give everyone 3-6 months to come up with your best submission.

    Just a thought…

    Can you elaborate on this?

    Hi Rusty,

You said you have owned 35mm camera system for  a long time. What brand is that? are they SLR? You probably know the pros/cons of “the system camera” that Richard just mentioned right?

My suggestion is exact the same with above mentioned… a system is the key. Not only it is easy find the specialized equipment in a BIG NAME, but also you can find other “cheaper line” equitment made by other small company.

    yuhina,

Stayed out as long as I could… ;D Not only do I have to be worried about what hatch is coming off, but I have to be sure not to fish the redds and the way I play a fish to hand, and the correct way to pose with said fish, but now I have to worry about the way I look as I fish.
