I second your WOW!!
Cameron is out of town and away from his computer. But I know that He will be excited to see this. He has talked me into a glass rod and I cannot wait to get it. I am paying $600 for a new custom built and to see a production glass at $650 makes me think that I made a good decision.
After casting some of these glass rods, it is hard to understand why they went out of favor but I second that feeling for bamboo as well. Changes in technology is the case but changes in technology might also be bringing them back. The glass that I casted are slower in nature but I really like it and they are pretty forgiving even with a bad cast. Many of the graphites are just to fast. The nostalgia and history is also kind of fun and I know Cameron Likes being different.
There has also been a surge of shorter fly rods made for the bass tournaments here in the US. We might be seeing glass enter those niches as well. The nature of the glass rod and size might be the answer to fit those bills. I have not tried to roll over a big popper or streamer but the 5wts that I have casted sure feel like they can do it.

MemberWell, whatever the case may be, I am certainly excited about glass rods. I just purchased my first rod, a Scott 703/3 after talking with Cameron at length and getting some good advice at the fiberglass board.

Simon ChuMemberI have the same rod Neil and its a honey. At the time I thought I was a bit extravagant but as you say the guys who know, always are generous with advice and you will be pointed in the right direction. 🙂 Thanks Cameron and David A

MemberHi Si, Neal,
I have the F754/3 and it is a cracker. It will be the 4 wt I take to Montana next month…. I think.I also have a Custom built South Fork Rod Co,(Dave Redington) 6’6 2 wt which is my fav 2 wt.
It was cheaper than the Scott and is a real honey, and can turn over flies that my graphite 2 wts don’t have a chance ofMay 29, 2008 at 2:35 am #26094
David AndersonMemberI don’t know about the rest of the world, but here in OZ my 7′ #3 Scott F is the near perfect rod for small streams..
((that’s a hint Simon – because you’re a proud UnZuddian you should get a little like ‘our small stream twig fishing is better than yours’ and invite me over to prove it.. 😉 :D))

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.
