MemberHey, just got back from my trip. I wanted to update you guys. Well, it rained, alot! The water was up and muddy so it made it extra tough. We went to a dam tailwater the first day, it was the only river not blown out. I hooked one that shook the hook seconds after he came to the surface, the rest of the day was a zero. Next day we found some smaller creeks that my buddies had fished before. On my six drift through a hole I hooked and landed my first steelhead. Not that I landed him in that hole it was about a hundred yards downstream! π
Anyway next couple of days I landed at least two a day(hooked a pile of them, they are scrappy), had a blast. I wanted tothank youguys for your advice. Chartreuse was the key, in a caddis style patern with a small wing tied off the back. As soon as I figure out how to post pics, I will put some on. Thanks again guys.robert clark
MemberI appreciate the info, nice lookin flies by the way. I have tied several egg patterns up, and I dont know if they will work but I tied a couple of very gold golden stones. Some article said sometimes they like gold. I also tied several copper johns, some chart. caddis. Like I said I really appreciate the info. π

MemberI normally do not fish indicators but my fishing buddies say it is almost a must. Im up for anything if it means tying into one. So purple is a good color? I ties some yellow sucker spawn and some orange sucker spawn, along with a very gold golden stone(I read somewhere that gold works well). Do you strip the buggers or just dead drift them? I dont know if they will chase a fly or if you have to bump it off their noses. I appreciate your help.

MemberThe weather here has either left the water high or low and frozen. Ia am begining to go through withdraw. It has been three weeks since I have been on the water, normally I dont go a week without. I have just resorted to tying like my life depended on it. What is funny is that instead of tying nymphs and streamers which I should be fishing now I have been tying parachute dries. Go figure. π

MemberAwesome looking flies. I was curious what the green caddis was tied with?

MemberIf you dont want to use an indicator you can simply watch the point where your fly line joins your leader. If the line slows, stops, or just looks funny, set!!!! I much prefer this to fishing indicators, nothing against them. I tried them my first year fly fishing it just didnt fit me very well. Good luck. π

MemberMy flyfishing ambitions this year are to fish more water that I have never fished before. Like anyone I have my favorite spots, but this year I plan to chase down some hints passed on to me in hushed tones of water that doesnt see a stock truck and the inevitable horde that follows. Native brookie fishing is my favorite and I love catching the occasional brown from a high mountain stream. This year is dedicated to the small streams, my favorite place to fish.

MemberThank you guys for all the information. Where I live there are only a couple fly shops and I have to order most all my tying supplies. Dyeing them opens up a world of possibilities. Thanks again! π

MemberI chewed for years and then a buddy I worked with that smoked had a massive heart attack and died at 47! Me a nd my wife were having our first child that year and I decided I didnt want to miss out on her growing up. I had tried to quit multiple times but I dont think I really wanted it you know what I mean. When I tried to quit after my friends death I just laid it down. I didnt use gum or any of that stuff, I just was finished. I wont lie and say it was easy but its been over four years now and I have not touched the stuff. I wish you the best of luck.
