    Zach,

Since moving down to South Florida, I am discovering the world of SUP’s and they are everywhere down here.

There are some cheaper paddle board paddles down here. I will look next time I am in Gander Mountain, Sports Authority and my Kayak shop. You can get one for a reasonable fee, or an obscene fee, your choice;)

Here’s a link to Gander Mt site–

    Here’s one at Sports Authority

This paddle shows 59.95 during a search, but shows 99.00 with a call them message-

This is the first year I have not fished for steelhead in almost 20 years–Consequently, its the first year I haven’t caught a steelhead for an entire year as well-

I miss fishing Western NY and PA this time of year—

    Michigan as well–

My new Florida friends think I am crazy when they see some of my winter steelheading pics—Of course, in a place where people wear flip flops and shorts year round, seeing a guy trudging through the snow with flyrod in hand probably does seem a little crazy–

    Thanks for taking me along–

    Great News Kelly–

in reply to: any fly fishing sites geared toward beginners? #53992

    Thanks guys-

Many of the suggestions were already known by me, but I was trying to get a place where a beginner could go and find info in some sort of organized manner geared towards the beginner– Sexyloops has plenty of great information, but much of it is well over the head of the average beginner, or even intermediate angler-therefore, until I have time to dig around and find specific threads I think Brian will find of use, I will use other avenues-

The “How to fly fish” from Orvis is a link I sent him-

I had already explained about digging around youtube-but not to believe everything he sees or reads i=on the internet, as we all know, there are many opinions on all things fly fishing, and a good deal of it is BS–

I referred many of the other links suggested.

    Thank you-

    P.J.

Chad, I have paddled the Cuda-Its nice and tracks well-The stability wasn’t as solid as I thought it would be–I think some of that is due to the fact that I had the seat in the higher position–secondary stability was great, but it was a little shaky for me–I only paddled it for about 20 minutes and I was much more comfortable towards the end of the ride-

in reply to: Off topic: bird hunting #54012

I have hunted many types of upland birds and waterfowl-

    I love bird hunting-

Quail, Grouse, Pheasant, woodcock and all manner of ducks and geese-

I have a yellow lab named Bear–He is as easy going and gentle as any dog I have ever owned–He also has zero drive and desire to hunt-

His predecessor was the best dog I ever owned–Jake was a black lab and he retrieved his first duck at 10 weeks old—(teal) and he was off to the races after that-

Jake died early of cancer-he was only 8 and was in the prime of his life-

Bear and Jake came from the same kennel and share some lineage-

Some dogs have it–some dogs don’t–

Since moving to Florida, I have decided not to get a new water dog—I am not interested in seeing my dog become a gator snack while making a retrieve-

Shannon-If I were to be looking for a single at this point in time–The Diablo would be on the short list– I really want a tandem so I can work with my young son and teach him how to handle himself in a kayak and teach him how to fish from one as well-He’s young and inexperienced and I want him at arm’s length for now-I also have a 15 year old daughter and a wife that are unsure about paddling and a tandem will allow me to work with them and allow them to get more comfortable in a kayak-

Craig, I have been leaning towards the Big Tuna for this purchase, and I am certain I will be ordering one within the next week or two-

I have to figure out which color I want to order 😉

Now I have to figure out what paddle to buy–

What pattern is that “Egg Sucking Starling” ?

    Great fish!!

in reply to: Fishing kayaks #54578

My list is simple and straight forward–

Weight is not much of a consideration, at least to the point that if a particular kayak weighs 10 pounds more than another, it could be out of the running-

I’m 6’2″ and 230— if one kayak weighs 70 pounds and another weighs 90–I can still load either one, if that makes sense–

I have a Yukon Denali XL (PITA to load anything on the racks) I also have a 5×10 utility trailer that I plan on making kayak racks for–So I will have options that include both wrestling a clumsy kayak onto the roof or a huge SUV or gently placing it into custom made racks on a low profile trailer-

For this particular kayak, I am more interested in stability, comfort and ease of fishing, than tracking, speed etc-

I am looking for a kayak that is big enough and stable enough for myself and my 8 year old son to tool around in and catch fish in fresh water, brackish water, inlets,

in reply to: Fishing kayaks #54576

Figured I would bump this to see if anybody else has anything to add–
