MemberZach-To the best of my recallection-Rod prices doubled within a few years of the “Lifetime Warranty” debocle.
I know that I was told by someone I trust (that would know for sure) that a rod company he worked for charged what it cost them to replace the rod- i.e. you pay X ammount of dollars for the warrany service and the rod company Y

MemberWell,
I received my copy of “Once in a Blue Moon” and got a chance to watch it on the big TV with good speakers.
My wife sat down and watched it with me. All I can say is, it is even better on the big screen with surround sound. My wife really enjoyed it too. She even said she wanted to go on Amazon and leave a review. She has never done that before.

MemberHill’s discount flies-I have ordered several flies from them over the years and I have always been pleased.
Although they are a North Western company, they even have great lakes steelhead patterns.
I am not sure about Zach’s policy regarding free advertising ect.., so I will not post a link-I have nothing to do with these guys other than I am a customer and i have always been satisfied.
P.M. me if you want.

MemberA truck that means wanker in Spanish-I need one of those, lol.
I have owned a few cars that I am pretty sure the name could be translated into P.O.S.
Looks like a nice vehicle.
I miss my s.u.v. type of vehicle. I sold my Jeep shortly after I bought a new truck in 2003. My wife’s completely emasculating to drive mini van will be paid off shortly and I am thinking about buying myself – uh, I mean my 16 year old daughter – another s.u.v. They make the best fishing vehicles for sure and they are a little easier on the wallet at the pump.
Nice Ride, who makes it?

MemberI am pretty sure the mice want to cross the river because Carl is throwing hunks of cheese accross the river to lure them over- 😉

MemberMike L , it really is good. It’s not your normal grip and grin sort of fly fishing flick. It’s educational beyond the realm of fly fishing.
I really enjoyed this and I hope Carl is able to pull it off again with another topic.

MemberWay to go Neal, burst our bubble. I guess I’ll have to put that 400 bucks toward some new fishing gear. 😉

MemberJake, I’ll be checking that out myself–

MemberIt is coded for U.S. Players and I watched it on my laptop without a problem.
Zach, it really is an amazing film. I know Carl and think he is a great guy and a blast to fish and hang around with and all, but I wouldn’t come on here and say this is the best thing since sliced bread if I didn’t believe it.

MemberDavid,
I have had a CPAP since last summer and if I am going to be gone for a few short days, I don’t even take it with me.
I do take it on extended vacations. I would imaging Zach is right about using a electric hookup at the campground if that is possible.
I would think that the CPAP and inverter would drain a battery over night.
You have me wondering if there is a dc version of the CPAP now. I am off the search the web!!!

MemberZach, I believe you are right about Tred Barta-although you never really know how you will handle adversity until the time comes. I hope Mr Barta and his family are able to cope with this problem and condition. I also hope that there are no more strokes on the way-which at times, they come in groups.
Zach,
I am sorry to hear of your misfortune and paralysis but I am very happy that you are able to deal with it.
Although I am well now, I once had to deal with temporary paralysis and didn’t know to what extent it would effect me for the long term.
In 1988 I acquired Gillian Barre’ Syndrome and was hospitalized for 13 days and was bed ridden and in a bad way for some time. I had to learn how to walk and speak all over again at age 24. It was a scary time and although I have a 7 month recovery just to get back to about 70% of where I was, it took several years to get to the 90% range and about 10 or 12 years to get to what I would call 99%.
The docs said that the reason I made such a fast turn around when I was in the hospital and got to a point where I could at least have some semblance of normalcy in my life, was because I was a complete hard ass and refused to give in and be a victim.
While I was in the hospital and after they told me what I had and what to expect and what I was going to have to do to have a chance to get better. I wouldn’t let anybody do anything for me. I fed myself, I drank for myself without help, I wouldn’t use a bed pan, I hobbled with my food cart to the john to use the bathroom and I did isometric exercises in my bed every day, all day.
Although I am not telling this story to brag, I think that when these types of things happen, especially when it is completely un-expected, you really only have two choices.
You can pull yourself up and do the best you are capable of doing and then some or you can lay there, be a victim and hope that somebody can help you.
If I would have listened to the doctors and rested and hoped that the steroids worked and hoped I could at least walk and talk again, I would be disabled to some degree today.
I figured if I was going to be disabled it wasn’t going to be because I didn’t try my damnedest to get better and fully recover. I worked hard and I had to work through all sorts of very strong emotions which I am sure Zach is fully aware of.
I wasn’t suppose to get back to where I was before I contracted my illness, but I did. I am here to tell you this, I earned my life back by sheer determination, good physical therapy and the grace of God.
Zach, Glad to have you here. If you get over to Indiana and want to do some hunting, fishing, shooting or just get out and breath some good clean air-get with me and I’ll gladly take you out. If you have an all terrain chair, I have lots of places you can shoot, hunt and fish.
I have a boat as well and there is a lake close with lots of bass, stripers and hybrid stripers that readily take a fly.I have a friend that has no legs and other than a winning a foot race or kicking a field goal, there is nothing this man can’t do and I admire him for it.
I truly hope Tred Barta is able to dig deep and rise above this tragedy.

MemberI like Tred because he is comfortable in his own skin and with who he is-warts and all.
Most people don’t know how to handle or take people that exude self confidence and are take charge guys.
Tred has made me laugh, cringe and at times pissed me off but I feel he is a genuine soul.
Prayers and well wishes on the way for Mr Barta.

MemberHi Carl,
Glad to see you are still alive and well. I am hoping to be able to cast a fly rod by the end of summer.
Cheers, P.J.

MemberZach,
my 93 cherokee sport was the best vehicle i have ever owned. when i sold it in 2003 it had 237,000 miles on it and was in great shape. it is still on the road but looks real rough. the second owner didn’t take as good of care of the old girl as i did.
my old cherokee had seen more than half of the states in the union and 2 provinces of canada. lots of quality hunting and fishing trips taken with my old red jeep.
you are making me want to buy yours in a bad way.

MemberKen,
my surgery went well. removed 1 giant bone spur and one baby spur. giant spur was wreaking havoc on my rotator cuff and they had to make a repair to the cuff too.
a week after surgery my therapy was going great and whammo, i developed a post op blood clot the size of Texas in my arm. spent 2 days in hospital and now i am on blood thinners and that sucks.
therapy is getting back on track and i am just going crazy sitting around the house.
i want to fish very bad. i will miss the entire spring steelhead season.
i am going through all my extra stuff and am amazed at how much stuff i have laying around.
i am trying to get enough cash to buy a new guitar or at least some good accessories.

MemberThe old saying “Ignorance is bliss” could come into play here for sure.
I have become aware of what’s going on down in the part of the world and I don’t intend on being a statistic.
As for the safety is an illusion statement that is somewhat true. We can never be completely safe everywhere. No sence tempting fate as far as I am concerned.
I am the sort of guy that is well versed in taking care of myself and my family. Mexico doesn’t allow me the use or even the posession of the tools that one needs to effectively protect yourself i.e. Glock – H7K S&W, Cold Steel ect..
Most of the time when I fish and hunt I am not concerned at all about other people’s actions and how they will effect me. On occasion, I legally cary one of my Glocks and I always have a good knife in my posession while out in wild places.
If Mexico allowed me to have a fighting chance in this envrionment, I might consider it. As things stand, it isn’t going to happen.

MemberWell, I had been thinking about making this trip with a buddy for a couple years.
Not only are there nightly gun battles akin to Fallujah on a Saturday night, they have now started kidnapping Americans. Not just rich Americans, Any American that they think somebody would care enough about to raise some major cash. A couple of them have been murdered after the ransom was paid.
Does,’t really sound like a place I want to go unarmed. Since you cannot legally carry even a pocket knife in Old Mexico, I think I’ll pass.
Hell, there are over 10 million people living the good life here that have passed through that region, just ask them about “The Man” Â
