Mike TolbertMemberExcellent podcast Zach. I was really hoping Oliver would say there are some decent fisheries on Nassau, though. I’ll be on a cruise soon that is making a stop at Nassau and I was hoping I might be able to squeeze in a little bone fishing, but I figure it would be a long shot after I didn’t see anything near Nassau in the DIY Bonefish book or hear anything from Oliver.
I’m going to have to checkout buccaneers and bones!
Keep up the good work!

Mike TolbertMemberZach, I recommend putting in at Curtis Switch. My favorite section to fish on the Toccoa starts at Curtis and downstream for 3 miles. There is a really nice deep hole about 1 mile past the first power lines which holds a lot of good size rainbows (2lbs or more). The property owners on the left have a feeder going all the time so the fish will hold to that spot. If you put in at Curtis just after they stop releasing (like 30 – 45 min after) you can ride the highwater down and have a better opportunity to catch a big’n.
I will say this section is more challenging than the section from the Dam to Curtis and can get real shallow from the power lines to the deep hole I mentioned. That’s another reason it is good to put in just after they stop generating.
Mike TolbertMemberYou are interviewing “Diddy”?!?! Awesome!
Matt Jones photos look amazing.
Zimmerman’s book might be my next book. Would you recommend it for a beginner?
Mike TolbertMemberI think I could handle that. Thanks!
Mike TolbertMemberSounds Awesome!
Mike TolbertMemberZach, I told you wrong. Smoke is around 185 degrees on my traeger.
Mike TolbertMemberWhat?!?! That is classic Bocephus man, you know it doesn’t get any better than that. Hahaha 🙂
The recipe was simple, I picked up some crackers and Jalapeno pimento cheese at the store and smoked that sucker. I did brine the trout for a few hours first.
Here’s the brine details. http://fwp.mt.gov/mtoutdoors/HTML/articles/recipes/smokedtrout.htm#.VRH9zxDF9FQ
Mike TolbertMemberWell done sir!
Here is the brine recipe I told you about. I’ve used it 3 times and each time it has turned out perfect. I don’t follow the instructions for cooking. I just smoke it at around 200 – 225. You can estimate 1hr cook time per 2lbs so an 18lb bird will take around 9 hours.

Mike TolbertMemberThanks for the feedback Mike.
Mike TolbertMemberThanks for the feedback fellas. I may try to get back out there on Friday. Do you typically need to give it a few days after a good storm like we’ve had the past day or two?
Mike TolbertMemberNice! Good job Phil!
Mike TolbertMemberZach, supposedly there are sturgeon in the amicalola river. Next time you are at Tracy’s parents we should check it out. I know a decent spot.
Mike TolbertMemberMike, the thought is that the lake will be calm when night fishing. I don’t think I would use it in choppy water because it is possible that it could break.
It’s nothing fancy or tough but it should get the job done.
Unfortunately, the weather is not looking to good for the weekend so I’m not sure these lights are going to help. Weather changes every hour but this system doesn’t look good so far.
Mike TolbertMemberThanks for the detailed info Zach!
Mike TolbertMemberMike, this is just something I rigged up with spare materials. The battery will not break the foam board when I sit it on top. I would never try to lift the foam board up by the handle with the battery attached. The foam board handle is actually used to attach a rope so I can pull it back to the boat. I plan on letting the platform float away from the boat to fish it from 20 – 30 feet away.
I think it will float. It is actually 2 pieces of 3/4 inch foam board stuck together, which should hold up the battery fine.
We’ll see if it works.
Mike TolbertMemberAdam, I just went with the cheap lights from Bass Pro. LED are more expensive, but I’m sure they would work. I’d go LED if I knew I’d be using them a lot.
Mike TolbertMemberThanks Zach. I’ll post a report of the Fontana / Hazel Creek trip after this weekend.
I put a spare can of spray paint to the platform tonight so it doesn’t look as lame…

Mike TolbertMemberZach, very good point on the foam hoppers. I am beginning to love them as well.
Mike TolbertMemberNice SUP!
Mike TolbertMemberThanks Zach! I’ve done the section from the dam to settle’s bridge twice now. The dam area can get pretty crowded, but it’s clear for the most part once you float down a little ways. I’ve located some good spots above and below HWY 20 bridge. Let me know when you want to go.
