MemberJust finished “Sloop” by Daniel Robb and am recommending to everyone I can. It is about the author’s restoration of a Herreshoff 12 1/2 daysailer (a classic wooden sailboat). But really – about so much more. An appreciation of the slow and tangible in this digital age of immediate gratification. Highly recommended especially if you have any interest in boatbuilding or woodworking/craft in general.

MemberI’m in a similar position, just a couple years ahead of you, having bought a Rebel XTI almost 2 years ago. When I started adding lenses, I made a conscious decision to avoid the ef-s lenses so that if I ever upgraded to a full frame, the lenses would transfer. And now that I’m looking to upgrade, I’m glad I did. For a low light wide angle I have the 28 1.8, and I think it is a great lens for the money, and fast enough for low light. And although the 10-22 ef-s may be a decent lens, it is f3.5 which I personally don’t consider fast enough for low light. Spend your money on your lenses, and upgrade the body when you can, if you need to.

MemberJust be straight up about it and ask. I have always used this approach and have seldom been turned down. This includes fishing on private land as well as camping, usually on farms or ranches, when bike touring. In fact I have met some really friendly folks bike touring, ranchers that invite me inside for dinner and want to sit around and drink. I still have yet to meet the proverbial farmer’s daughter though… ;D

MemberLots of nods to The River Why, and no question it is a great book.
