I use the term lining and flossing to refer to the same method. Making the line go through the fish’s mouth to hook it.
I did have a client bring it by the shop, I’m just that not impressed by it. My thinking is why not just use a tube fly with a circle hook. To me you are still lining the fish. I talked to a CO here and described the system, and he agreed with me. I see the bead theory in the design, but not when you have a multiple fly rig and rip the line though the fish’s mouth.
Just saw the list of new rods coming out and all I can say is wow. Jerry and all the guys at Sage are amazing.

I’ve used it several times. They are great to fish out of, being able to stand up is a great advantage. Some of the cons are the price tag. If you going to be in it for a long time you need to upgrade the seat. They are heavy and very slow in the water.

Very nice. Looks like you had a great trip. Did you throw any of your sz. 32’s at them? You will have to bring some of those flies into the shop so I can see them.

I’ve fished out of one quite a bit. We carry it in our shop. It is pretty sweet. It acts like a normal kayak when the arms are retracted. Tracks great and is very stable. The only problems with it are its heavy and the price tag. I know Freedom has a smaller boat coming out that is going to be under $1000 and I believe at 12ft. They are pretty nice, it just takes some time to get used to.

Yeah, that’s the advantage of the Nucanoe its easy to sell to a wide range of people. It also helps that we have a total of 5 kayak brands in the shop to sell. Is Darkes the rep for Freedom Hawk for you?

We carry them in the shop over here. I’ve fished from them a couple of times. Pretty neat boats with all the different set up you can have. I found that the larger boat is the best option for the larger amount of space it has. The one complaint people have about the boat is its weight. I believe the larger boat is over 70lbs. The neat think is that you can stand up in these guys pretty easy. It’s no Freedom Hawk though.
-MikeHere is a question for those who know carp. There are a ton of huge carp right now eating algae off the boulders around the pier. How would you approach these fish as far as flies. They seem pretty happy eating the thick grassy algae.
I’ve run into a similar situation on the creeks, where the carp are eating algae off logs. I found that a fly close to the color of the algae,but slightly off, in most cases light olive, draws there attention. You have to but the fly right on there nose though, within a foot or less.

I would look at areas where there are downed logs. Carp love to hide in places like that. Mud flats are great as well. Check the edges of the river, especially after a rain. I have landed just shy of 200 carp this year, and none have been from a boat as well. I think I have only landed 3 carp ever from a boat. If you wade slowly and walk lightly on the bank you should have no problem.
I may have to rock one of my Wings jersey on the flats on Friday.

I hate the Pens, even more then the Hawks, well at least right now. I hear you Tim about the Wings screwing up your plans. I was hoping to be celebrating last night. I may have to rock one of my Wings jersey on the flats on Friday. Hopefully the refs will provide some make up calls for about the half dozen trips they missed, and the bogus goalie interference call on Zett.
