Ended up booking two trips with Capt. Kai Williams when we are out there; based on a pm recommendation from a forum member. In about a month or so I will share the lowdown on my first trip to the salt.
I have used the Joby GorillaPod SLR Zoom with Ballhead for probably 3 years with my D200 & wide angle
I am a huge believer in a tripod and the Joby Gorilla Pod (see it here). You can lash it to your fish pack, and with the quick release have it on your camera in no time. You can also set it up and, depending upon your camera, get some time lapse or video of you fishing a run and if you hook up with a nice fish all you have to do is walk back to your pre-set shot for the hero photo.
So i would go mini flexible tripod over monopod for still photos.

Just climbing back in to the office after 4 days away, but here are a couple of answers to your questions.

Hope the duck hunting went well. Should have been a good day for it.
We had 8 guys show up last night and it was cool to catch up with some old friends and meet some new ones. We are going to do it again in a month or so. Check out the FB page for my site for more details (this is the link to it).
Good news bad news guys.
The good news is the hats have come in. The bad news is they are all misprinted in the wrong color. I am working on it now.
