I am looking to improve the composition of my fishing pics.  I primarily take the pictures for myself and family/friends.  I fish alone frequently and as a result only get the “fish at my feet” type pics, which I think all would agree are dull.  I have a Panasonic Lumix TS20 16.1 MP TOUGH waterproof point and shoot.  My thought was to get a monopod type rig http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Camcorder-Self-portrait-Telescopic-Monopod/dp/B008LAA41G/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2P442TWF96AD8&coliid=I2L5RYB7PZAWOQ which would let me get a pic from interesting angles and with me in it.
The limitation I see with these is they are all constructed with one joint designed to allow the arm to angle down from the camera.  I would like to try using the arm to lower the camera into the water to shoot pics and vid of the fish coming to net and/or boatside.
Maybe I could add a ball mount to the end of the arm to be the second joint?  Wondering if anyone has successfully used a similar rig?

I am a huge believer in a tripod and the Joby Gorilla Pod (see it here).  You can lash it to your fish pack, and with the quick release have it on your camera in no time.  You can also set it up and, depending upon your camera, get some time lapse or video of you fishing a run and if you hook up with a nice fish all you have to do is walk back to your pre-set shot for the hero photo.

So i would go mini flexible tripod over monopod for still photos.

“Hero photo” is probably the right description for it, but that is what my audience demands.
My thoughts with the monopod is the self portrait type use.  I want to be able to quickly deploy the camera, make the image and put it away so I can get the fish released.  I’m thinking that being able to hold the camera over my head could give an interesting angle and make it easier to get both me and the fish, even if the fish is still in the water.
As a side I have been grossly underwhelmed by both of my gorilla pods.  I [s:gmmnszmd]have[/s:gmmnszmd] had a mini that broke I could never get it to actually hold just the right angle.  The mini tripod I prefer is the ultrapod.  I like being able to secure the strap around things.  Then with the ball seat easily line the shot up.

I have used the Joby GorillaPod SLR Zoom with Ballhead for probably 3 years with my D200 & wide angle

So would it be fair to say that no one has used a rig like this?
