Mark SidesMemberDave,
Since you threw it out there, I would love to hear your informed and specific overview on just how you would execute an effective gun control measure/application to alleviate this specific situation…….
Mark SidesMemberThe discs and “clippy things” as Zach calls them are marketed as “Pulse Disc” and offered by a company titled Brine Fly, http://www.BrineFlyInnovations.com
They offer 3 different configurations of disc with sizes ranging from 1/2″ up to 1-1/4″.
After I actually throw one on a Musky hunt I will update.
Mark SidesMemberDo you think booze was involved?
We quit floating the streams in the Ozark Scenic Riverways during the summer. Too many people and way too many of them drunk.
I can’t count the amount of times some dumbass threw out some lewd comment floating by or a bunch of drunks decided to camp right next to our camp site because they got off the river too late set up with any light left.
I have heard gunfire at night from other camp sites up and down stream with strangers walking into our camp out of the dark totally unannounced.I did a one week float through the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago and that river is heavily regulated as to how many people can be on it and how long they can be on it via permit and strict enforcement.
The MDC/law enforcement is stretched way too thin on the OSR and should adopt a similar method but the politicians would never allow it as the canoe rental biz and other float trip support business’s would put the stops on that in a heartbeat. The whole water right of way land owner boundary conflict has been growing as the popularity of floating has grown to where now in many areas fencing, wire and no trespassing sign have become prominent on some streams.
We float only in the fall now, during the week when it’s starting to get cold and we always have protection at hand.

Hey Guys,I’m headed back south tomorrow, but have been on the Peruvian Amazon these last three weeks. Anybody that wants to see some photos can click here. Not a lot of huge fish to brag about, but I did lose most of a 250 gr. sink tip to Piranha teeth!

Mark SidesMemberZowie…wound a little tight aren’t we?
Sheesh…let it go.
Someone needs to get laid.
Mark SidesMemberIt’s French.
Mark SidesMemberI was picking up some materials for these flies at FeatherCraft and told the boys what I was up to.
Evan and Ted gave me a bunch of the “clippy things” and asked me to try them out . They had been offered to FC by the gentleman (I will get his name/company) who created them in an effort to get some higher profile, attention, sales etc.
They asked me if I would rig a few of my flies up and offer an opinion before they dedicated shelf space for retail sales.
We tested them in my buddies swimming pool and they are really promising.
The “clip” is a stainless spring clip on which the disc is mounted. With the concave side facing forward the slotted disc wobbles generating a rhythmic movement and adds a very lifelike, “injured swimming critter” type of action to the fly rather than the straight, smooth glide you would normally get when stripping a fly of this size, 8 to 15 inches with a 4/0 at the head and a 6/0 trailer.
Think of it as the kind of action one would see with an injured “bait” struggling to swim….jiggle and wiggle…and it rattles, you can hear it when underwater, which I like as tying rattles on flies can be an unwanted addition. I am a big believer in any form of vibration generated from an offering, the lateral line is too often forgotten in fly designs.
There is a reason plug designers use propellers and rattles and multi section body designs. When I get a chance I will dig up the name of it and post some underwater video of I shot of it.
The real test will be here for Musky and I am going to throw them at Cuda’ this fall.
Mark SidesMemberSort of symbolizes my prolonged scholastic pursuits.
Mark SidesMemberThe article title did indicate Fly Fishing and was a fun read.
Anytime Alma Mater comparisons arise you can always expect a certain amount of b@11 busting, no need for ones shorts to get in a twist although I can’t believe you left out my school (one of many actually)……Attachments:
Mark SidesMemberNice beast Zach!!
Very seldom do we see them that big in the Chesapeake. Can you give me a little insight into how you guys fish your “spot”?
Night fishing always keeps things exciting, with things likes beavers slapping their tail right next to the boat or moccasins dropping in for a visit.

Mark SidesMemberAs you did Zach I went out to chase Carp on Saturday.
Our grain fields edge the Mississippi and when the river floods the fish invade the flooded fields. Acres of tailing fish and with the fresh food source it is really tough to get them to take a fly.
The sloughs and ditches fill up with the Common Carp such as what Zach is diplaying and Asian Carp both of which hit the 5 – 10lb. range. When the flood waters recede from the fields they are trapped
as the inlets they used to get in from the river fill with silt and no longer hold enough water for them to get out.
We call it “ditch fishing” , add a few Boodviesers’ and let the fun begin,
Then this rolled in.
The temps. went from 83 to 73 in under 10 minutes with the rain blowing sideways and marble sized hail.
Never took a stick out.
Mark SidesMemberHeres a couple more, I hope.

Mark SidesMemberHey Zach, while you are here where do I access the different smiley face expressions…they help a lot when trying to express sentiment or meaning in a post.
Mark SidesMemberYup, for me all it takes is practice, finally requesting guidance from my resident IT expert, and some creative new words directed at the computer….thanks for your attention Zach.

Question, can you post a pic via the edit function in a post established I established earlier?
