MemberYak hair works great for some of the bigger clousers I tie for saltwater, and it also has good color qualities in water for bass fishing.

MemberI have William Joseph that’s a few years old now, but it converts between waist pack (for shore or shallow wading) to a chest pack (for deeper wading or surf fishing). As a bonus, the belt is very supportive of my baddish back, so it’s my wading belt when not carrying the pack. The icing, on a trip to Mexico a couple years ago, the water bottle holder was perfect for Pacifico cans while in the surf.
My main issue with waist packs is, um, my waist. I have to hoist it back up more than I’d like.
WJ’s new magnetic chest & wait packs are intriguing. Salt water ruins zippers.

MemberAlmost all the violence is in the border area, in Tijuana, if you are going to Cabo you’d most likely fly there. Though it’s often much cheaper to fly there from Tijuana, you could simply fly past it. Try garybulla.com, he takes numerous groups down to the cape every year.
Personally, living within sight of Mexico, and having gone there hundreds of times in my younger days, I wouldn’t go to Tijuana nowadays. But, drive through to fish in Baja, yes, probably.

MemberWilco’s hour-long from a year or so was great, it’s been on my DVR for almost 2 years.
Another very cool new music show is Elvis Costello’s Spectacle on Sundance. He’s a great interviewer and there are some great musical collaborations throughout.

MemberWow, fancy eats. On a long day… seeds, hard salami, cliff or lara bars, maybe a bagel. Pretty simple, I don’t like to stop much for food, a lot gets eaten on the drive home.

MemberI’ve only been tying about 3 years, and I’ve got 3 bobbins. To be honest, if you keep them in good shape, don’t let the tubes get burrs that will cut thread, it’s hard to tell the difference. As long as they fit comfortably in your hand, and are of reasonably good quality, you’ll be good.
The latest Fly Tyer Magazine had peice on adjusting them so they’re not tight, and release line smoothly, which I found helpful.

MemberThe River Why may be coming to the silver screen twice, according to an article in the Drake.
The Lyons podcast was great. Kudos.

MemberI appreciate all the input. It turns out the decision has been made via a bro deal on a TiCrX. Too good to pass up.
I did like the sound of a 6 wt Axiom for bass though. I’m thinking of a full-time bass combo, and that might be just the ticket.
Thanks again for the info and advice. Tight lines.

MemberI bought a Beulah Trout Bum 4 wt last year. Reasonable price, casts nice. One thing, the rod I was shipped did not have the hardware shown on the website. It was standard nickel hardware, not anodized. I used it all summer, and like it a lot.

MemberThe Container Store is a great place to get all sort of boxes for organizing tying debris. In fact they carry divided boxes almost identical to those at fly shops, for much less. I use plastic shoe boxes, and similar containers to stack stuff in my limited space. Smaller ones also work well in the pockets of my float tube to contain small items I don’t want wet or rattling around.
Also, recycling plastic food containers, like dips or sauces might come in, is environmentally beneficial.
BTW, having seen the picture of the desk above in a previous post, I found a desk on Craig’s list that is very similar for $20 and turned it into my tying desk.

MemberBTW, the May/June Southwest Fly Fishing has a good article on tying a cork popper, by Charlie Kears,

MemberWhat’s the method for attaching the sili legs?
Mark, I use a small drill bit in a dremel tool (3/32 I think). You might have to buy a smaller collet to hold the tiny drill bit. Drill through and use the eye of a needle or threader tool to pull the rubber legs through.
For those interested, I just put up a video blog on fishing them at:
http://www.flyflinger.com/wpblog/?p=280Excellent, thank you. I’ve been thinking of trying my hand at poppers, and there has been a lot of good info here lately.
