Anyone have any opinion or input on TFO’s Axiom rods? I want to use them for salt, inshore and baja-type fly fishing. Any thoughts on the $30 difference between an Axiom and a TiCrX? Thanks.

Great rods, but you better hit the gym if you are gonna wave a 10 wt. Axiom around all day. They are rockets and can take abuse very well. Plus, you really can’t beat TFO’s pricing and warranty. If I recall correctly, they use fiberglass in the butt section as opposed to various carbon fibers that others currently employ. It is suppose to make the rod stronger, but the downside is that fiberglass weighs more than carbon fiber. But if rod weight is a non-issue for you, and you are not going to be using the rod for close-up casting, I believe it would be an excellent choice.

I did that very comparison 3 days ago , on an 8 wt. I really like the Ticrx better.

I have an Axiom 8.  I cast the Ticrx and Axiom at the shop before I purchased, and I thought the Axiom won hands down.  I thought the Ticrx was great, but the Axiom was simply more fun to cast.  More flex, maybe a bit lighter, and shoots the line out in a hurry.

I fished for it for baby tarpon, snook, and reds in FL – off the deck and from the surf.  It performed beyond expectations and was easy to haul right through the strong wind.  It’s no Loomis (cast the guide’s one piece GLX – wow), but for the price, I’ve been more than satisfied.

No experience with a 10 though, so take it for what it’s worth…

Both great rods, depends on your casting preference.

I absolutely love my Axiom 6 wt (best smallmouth rod you can buy for the $ IMO)…but getting the line wt match up correct took a little trial and error.

I appreciate all the input. It turns out the decision has been made via a bro deal on a TiCrX. Too good to pass up.

I did like the sound of a 6 wt Axiom for bass though. I’m thinking of a full-time bass combo, and that might be just the ticket.

Thanks again for the info and advice. Tight lines.

Dusty, the Axiom has no fiberglas anywhere – that’s the BlueWater rod.

    Kent,
My mistake…I thought I had confused my rods after someone mentioned kevlar. I knew they were using kevlar in the Axiom, but you are correct about me confusing it with the other rod.
