    Dude….mine are under glass!!!

For those that don’t know; Dave nailed a LOT and I do mean a LOT of really NICE wild browns during this hatch. Down side is it only occurs here once every 17 years!

I was working in Iraq and had seen several of Dave’s posts on a local board and contacted him to ask a few general questions. What I got in return was the how, when and where in exact detail…and when I got home a half dozen flies he tied and shipped were awaiting my arrival.

My trip home was delayed 11 days and I ended up missing the whole event but ask your self…..How many dudes would tell in detail where, when, and how they are catching fish of a life time out of these particular streams and on top of that throw in a half dozen of the magic patterns!!!

    THANKS AGAIN Dave!!!

    Now for the “Big Day”…

Cor and I met up about 0750, made the ride up the canyon to hook up with Bryan G, Mike and Matt. Talk about a Utah, A-Team! To be honest I was sooo stoked I got very lil sleep the night before at the same time I was a lil intimidated…6.5 – 7 miles in a day with 4 local “Sticks”. All that was laid to rest once flys were swapped and talk of the chance for a true monster, 25+!

The goal; fish 6.5-7 miles of a beautiful stretch of river in 8-9 hrs. Between the makeup of the group (laid back, easy going, great dudes) and leap forging 4 other guys this trip was no where near the work out I thought is was going to be! With that said by the end I was feeling it… wait… but a few cold drinks and Subway, Cor and I closed the night out with another 3 hrs on a different section! The lure of big fish… who needs crack!!!

    One last set I promise!

    Beauty ALL around!

Oh Yea….20-21” Wild Brute, Personal Best!

    Corey getin the “Money Shot”

    Just prior to release

Guys I can’t thank you enough, had a BLAST!!! Cor, and BG you guys are AWESOME! Great Pics, Good Times and New Friends!

I almost forgot (yea right)… The one that got away that BOTH Cor and Bry just had to mention…HA HA

I will spare you the “one that got away” story but it is an Awe Inspiring moment when you are standing in knee deep water adjacent to a big pool and not only get to watch the take, actually wait to make the set and then watch the largest brown you have ever hooked leap out of the water to the point you are looking at it eye level not once but twice! To be perfectly honest it was the coolest way to ever loose a fish!! He deserved it!

You know it’s was a nice fish when 4 guys who regularly catch big fish are just standing there and say “WOW, that was a big fish”!  I’ll be back, you can count on that!

Thanks to ALL! That’s to you to Zach, your board put me in touch with Cor over a year ago, and is still paying dividends!

    Where to start….

Work required a trip to UT.  The trip to UT required hooking up with Cor and slinging some big bugs!!!

Just some background: Last year prior to my trip to UT streamer fishing meant size 8 3xl buggers on my 5wt with a few split shot. Cor hooked me up and lent me rod and reel and some flies as I was ill equipped to move the monsters on his home water!

This year a whole different story… 9′ 6wt Z-Axis/ Lamson LS3 with 15′ sink tip and 5″ long Sex Dungeons!!!

The week sorta went like this, Wake up 0700 for work hit the local fly shops at lunch off at 430 fish from 5-9, eat/ few beers (missing the food shot for you guys… my bad) then sleep and do it all over again!

Wednesday- Met up with Cor and another guy named Patrick. It was not instant but once the sun went down, I think Patrick became a believer after hooking in to a nice Cutt, “the biggest fish he caught all year”

Thursday- Cor could not make it out but hooked me up with his fishing bud, Mike. A fellow Air Force dude (What an assignment… Hill, AFB) and quite the “Stick”! He introduced me to a new section of stream that proved to produce some quality browns, one in particular fell prey to “The Yellow Cougar”!

    First of the evening

Mike’s attempt at Corey’s streamer…. I think it works (Understatement of the year)!

    Fish of the night!

    That’s a size 2 4xl….

First wild brown pushing 20 but not quite

Yea, I hit the water Friday too! Moved a few but was tired and wanted to be well rested for the 6 plus mile journey the next day.

    Mike thanks for the pics!

Thanks guys for all the input! I have another to post when I get home. I think it may be a goodie… spinner TWICE as big as this one and the coloration is funky!!!

Will… I agree with you on the Sex the only reason I mentioned Hex was due to the size no other real reason.

Tim… Green Drake??? wings dont look right but like I an not an expert either. I am positive it is not a Sulphur unless Three Mile Island (TMI) is not up to standard!!!

Andrew… Thanks for your help I will send a few pics out. To be honest I did not think it would turn out to be such a discussion. I know what hatches on my local streams and what the trout key on besides that I am no entomologist. I am going to try to get Greg Hoovers email and send it to him. He is the PSU bug man!

Had to google that one Aaron!!!

I looked it up but the size on the site I found was 16-18. That fly is at least a 12 if not a 10.

Could be a”TMI” Lil yellow Quill (Leucrocuta hebe) Ha Ha!!!

    Thanks!

Hey Corey, I did not know I was an “internet guy”!!

I was told you were the “internet guy”! Long story short; I met Corey on this site, asking about fishing in UT. I was in UT for a new job orientation and wanted to hit some water. When I mentioned to my HR director that I was meeting up with a guy who I met here to hit the river with, she was shocked and warned me how big canyon country in UT is!!!

    Funny what others must think!

Risk was well worth the rewards! Thanks to Corey I had a blast and some of the best fishing in a long while. I am looking to do it all over again here in a few months as well as hit the South West with Aaron O!
