My dream trip is to NZ. You da Man!
If you have a min. could you comment on what you had to do prior to your trip in regards to “invasives”? I have heard of gear having to be washed and certified, having to get new boots and flies bought in NZ??? Not sure what is true and what may be hype but figured you might know.
I am sure if you are linking up with a guide the will have all the answers but I just thought I would ask.

Ironic…. This same subject has been on my mind. My first real experience with “Chucking” bugs was with Corey in UT, what a BLAST!
While I was out there I was able to demo a 9′ 6wt Z-axis. What a rod; light in the hand, a gem to cast with a great action and plenty of power. Only down side $ 630.00
I have been looking at a 9′ 6wt St Croix, Avid or TFO, Pro. Any advice??

Best advice I can give is take a trip to Utah, hook up with a guy named Corey, and presto you are in to some of the biggest browns you may have ever caught in your life!
I would take any and ALL advice Corey gives on streamer fishing! Man Knows what he is talking about.

Wow, how do you thank a guy you meet for the first time ever after just a few emails that; shows you several spots along his favorite river, then takes you to his favorite stretch and expands your knowledge base to a whole new world of the sport? Oh… yea… I forgot to mention that he let me use his rod and gave me several flies to use for the evening. Then to top off an AWESOME evening he takes several pics and does his magic and by noon the next day you have an email of several great shots just to solidify the memory for years to come!
All I can say is Corey is ONE STAND UP GUY!!! Thanks man!!! You can count on me coming back and we will absolutely hook up again.

Maybe I have been living under a rock or sucking sand for too long but that is about the collest thing ever!!! Absolutly AWESOME!!! I have used PS usually to spice up or make fun of someone during intel briefs while deployed I had no idea it had that capability!!!!!

I live and work about 15 mnutes from his shop. Many a lunch hours spent spent with a quick run to his place for the latest update and advice. The Susky has taken a lot of hits lately but we are hoping for the best.

I had that same exact experience. It was quite a few years ago and I am not sure where I was on the creek (meadow 1, 2 or 3). Should have paid more attention to the little things but it was all about the fish! All I know is we entered the park and went to a pull off area where people were set up camping. We were with about 10 guys. 8 wanted to work up stream and I knew I did not want to follow that crowd so another guy named Joe and I went down stream. They managed to catch a few nice cuts but Joe and I had a BLAST!!! It was exactly what you said shallower pocket water with a ton of lil cutts very eager to eat a red humpy. We actually lost count of how many fish we caught. I still have the remnants of that humpy!! Amazing to read through a post and it bring back such vivid memories.
That trip was a blur, it was in 1994 and I was only 15 but EVERY kid should get 14 days to do nothing but fish some of the finest water in the US!!!

I am planning on the week of 20-26 July. I am not sure what my requirements will be while I am out there but I am sure the evenings are mine and I am shooting for all day Friday and flying out on Saturday. I had talked to a guy that raved about the Weber and said I would be close to the lower part of it. I don’t have a need to fish in any particular place, just looking to wet a line in a new place and if all goes well get a few hook-ups!

Thanks for your posts! I have cast both rods and actually like both. But I realize that lawn casting in no way put a rod through the motions! I have a Winston LT 8’9″ 5wt and the 8’3″ 4wt they are perfect for about 90% of what I want out of a rod however I am looking for a little more backbone. I have read great reviews about both and like I said like casting both just wanted some tried and true opinions from the field.
I would not say that money is not an issue; just I worked my way up the ladder once and realized that I probably spent more up grading than just buying what I truly wanted in the first place.
I will look at the Scott S4 as well.
