MemberI cant remember the exact name but there is a place right next to the water park where they have dolphin shows. I think it is the Pelican something or another, kinda of a square building on the left side of the road as you are entering Islamorada.
Good luck down there!

MemberMy friend I fish with in Tampa is a guide, but does not run a guide business (yet), and he was telling me some of the things they have to know and do, as well as the time on the water you must document.

MemberZach, I agree that it is funny, heck it is kinda strange to actually do it. I was just saying most guys (that I know and talk to) in this area use these instead of kick fins. I was not trying to be confrontational at all. People walking down the trails or walking through the parks tend to give you very funny looks when they see a ping pong paddle attached to you or your tube. ;D

MemberThis was not on the river but it was on the water. If you look closely in the bottom left hand corner, near the point, you will see a boat.
This was just off in a little bay near Tampa Bay’s big bridge that goes over 275 (I think that is the road), Miguel Bay. We had been cruising down a mangrove line and were going to jump across to another one when we noticed the boat so we moved to the edge of a channel. Well as we were moving out one of the guys says is that guy naked? We looked and sure enough there was a dude on this boat butt arse naked. He was moving around the boat, standing and stretching for the world to see. The worst part was that there was a family around the corner on a little beach in kayaks, and they had two small kids. We debated for a few minutes and then called the Cops. About 15 minutes later here comes the MAN doing about 60 and as he came in sight around the point he stopped the boat on a dime, slammed it sideways and yelled, “Are you Fu.. naked?, You cant be naked out here!” We wrote a report for the cop and as we left naked man gave us the finger and the macarena hip shake (naked of course).
I hope the judge threw the book at him when he went to court, the pedophile jerk >:(

MemberHere is a black drum I caught this April, in Tampa. We spotted the boats and headed that way and it looked like the shows I have seen from Boca Grande. There were 46 boats chasing this school of black drum around for a few hours. We went about 50% landing the ones we hooked up. This one is about 60lbs and took about 20-25 minutes to get in the boat. I really wanted to get the fly rod out but the boats were so close it would have been a big hassle and I am not sure the 8wt would have lasted too long.

MemberI have owned a Helios for a couple of years now, and I have fished it in countless fishing situations half way around the globe from the flats of Hawaii to the mangroves in South Florida to Lagoons in Hilton Head, and the rivers of Georgia.

MemberThanks Paul, and I actually think I will be in Smith Township. Is that the same place you are tlaking about with Smithton?
I like the idea of a boat rental or canoe rental 🙂I am not sure I can handle Primanti’s, that is a huge sandwich!

MemberShane,
I have a Helios 8 9ft and have fished it half way around the world in all kinds of conditions from Gail force winds to calm lagoons. I absolutely love it.
I just returned from Pine Island Florida and cast it into a stiff wind for two days and never felt tired. I watched my Master Cetified CCI pick it up and throw a seriously tight into the teeth of the wind about 85 feet just to see how it cast since he had never used one.
I cannot say enough good things about the Helios!!!keith b
MemberZach,
What body of water were you fishing?
I have never caught one OTF but a month from now may be a good chance for me to get out and try.
