MemberCool stuff, JT; I like it. What’s that long fish midway down that looks kinda like a huge rainbow runner?
Zach
Thanks, Zach – appreciate it.

MemberZach,
If there is one thing I have come to realize about boats. You can’t have it all in one boat. you can come close with some for say local waters but there is always another river, or body of water that suits another type of hull etc. If you want to row and love the romance of a motor less vessel then that sounds like a great place to start. You may find in a few years that a jon with a jet will work better. Or like some, you could end up with more than one.

MemberDoes it have a brace for the person up front? I am looking at either a toon or a raft for some of the local rivers that are too skinny for my drift boat and am interested……………why don’t you haul that up here and let me row you down the drink a few times as a kind of test drive?
Yeah, it’s got a lean bar with a mesh apron protruding from it.

MemberZach,
I would really look into the jon with a jet. You can row, jet, and you don’t have to worry about a shuttle, which is the one thing I hate about drift boats.
Zach – I agree with Lando; the shuttle sucks. That said, I row a 13 ft. two man pontoon made by north fork outdoors and love it. NFO is a tough company to love, but the boat itself is fantastic. It’ll take a small outboard, too. I can only speak for myself, but the boat has turned out to be a ‘hot whip.’

MemberThey seem to be in that ‘tweener’ category for financing.

MemberNicely done.

MemberJust my two cents, but you should really cast as many rods as you possibly can before buying one.
jt benton
MemberI suggest a good 11 weight.
jt benton
MemberOh, well that’s helpful.

MemberSuckers will get you there (if you fish a really long drift)!
Carp are a gas. Recycled pic of one such fish on my 4 weight in the same stream:

While a guy can certainly get a more hardened finish for more money, I’m a huge fan of Lamson’s Konic. It’s cast aluminum, but features the same drag system as their entire line, and that’s what matters to me. I fish a Konic 3.5 on my 6 – weights for bass, pike and light saltwater. I love that I can interchange my lines easily. For example, for my 6 weight, I have a spool with RIO Gold for nymphing and such, and a spool with RIO Grand for streamers and really big indicator rigs. Same goes for my 7 and 8 – the flexibility, especially with sinking lines, is key for me.

MSThanks for the welcome, Mark.

MemberBudget doesn’t allow an $800 Helios.. But a Scott A3, Redington, TFO or Dec Hogan is in the range. I appreciate your comments.
