This is a little light for a trip report, but hey, post what you’ve got, right? Made it out today with my dad for a float on the Salt River, which is our redheaded stepchild of a tailwater. We caught some dinker trout, but the highlight of the day was the numerous and highly elusive Arizona bonefish (or desert sucker to the lay person). That’s right. I like the way they grab a copper john and run into the backing, especially when the alternative is watching the pro bowl.
And now, the dirtiest FP you’ve seen in a while:

Lovely.
Thanks!
we have had people in GA catch bowfin, in the southern rivers.
A sucker is not at all like a carp. A carp WILL take you into your backing every time…………well, almost every time.

Are you sure?
Yes.
A sucker is not at all like a carp.
Yeah. The “sucker” is probably one of a large group of native fishes evolved over tens of millions of years and native to North America. The carp is a giant minnow introduced here by some white guys a handful of generations ago. I can live with that; I spend my entire summer carp angling. I just think suckers are cool fish, difficult to catch, and reeking of good karma due to their native origin.

I have not found a sucker to be difficult to catch. Maybe it is because the ones I usually catch have the munchies.
*for the record, the Mt. suckers are a lot easier to catch than their cousin, the desert sucker
Suckers will get you there (if you fish a really long drift)!
Carp are a gas. Recycled pic of one such fish on my 4 weight in the same stream:

Sucker-
Is that thing spilling eggs?
I can’t cast that far to get a good long drift.
Oh, well that’s helpful.
You’re welcome.
I suggest a good 11 weight.
Good to see Steve getting into the action Lando….Nice work on the Salt JT.

They will for sure in big water.

Is that Lake Michigan?
Is that Lake Michigan? I’ve wanted to do that for years…
Yeah, up in Traverse City.
